Ahead of tomorrow’s UMK final in Finland, two the favourites, Satin Circus and Opera Skaala have recorded acoustic versions of their entries “Crossroads” and “Heart Of Light“.

Opera Skaala “Heart of Light” Acoustic Version

Opera Skaala sneaked into the Sibelius Academy, found a cembalo and performed their UMK entry “Heart Of Light” – sounding amazing as ever. The mezzosoprano Essi Luttinen nails every single note and the video proves that the song works just fine without the big show production.

Satin Circus “Crossroads” Acoustic Version

Satin Circus, however, filled their acoustic effort with lots of different instruments and solos. Just like they promised in our interview, and proved during their live performance, this version not only has a guitar solo, but also an amazing saxophone solo. There’s some great harmonies and the band’s frontman Paul sounds great. Satin Circus have confirmed that they’ve also added one more instrument to the final version of the song – does this mean we will see a Finnish Epic Sax Guy in the UMK final?

This version of “Crossroads” is vastly superior to the official one, but it still doesn’t change the fact that their live vocals are a complete disaster, and they use A LOT of autotune in the video.

I think that the meaning of this acoustic video of Opera skaala is not to promote the song for Europees but show us how talented Essi is as a singer. Very impressive, in a space which is not best possible for a performance. Satin Circus then. Their acoustic version is still a studio recording, where the worst faults can be wiped away – just like a kind of PhotoShop in an audio work. If Satin guys, and Paul are as uncertain and weak tomorrow night I’ll not be even concidering to waste a coin to vote for then. My choice… Read more »

I’m a fan of both, they are my 2 favourites, though I appreciate Opera Skaala a little more, I think it would be more interesting to send them to ESC… but Satin Circus wins this acoustic round, the song sounds amazing this way! They should send this version if they win UMK.

I’m sorry, but “Heart of Light” is a 3-minute song that feels like 3 hours!

Cue Father Ted saying: “We need to get rid of that sax solo”.
