After a very long evening spent listening to a variety of songs — cheap and expensive, well-produced and hastily thrown together — Austria (or, rather, its jury) has made its choices. We now know the six songs that will compete in the final of “Wer singt für Österreich?”. Do any have the potential to take Austria back to the Top 10?

WER SINGT FÜR ÖSTERREICH? – FINALISTS

Out of the 12 songs that were performed this evening, the jury decided that these six most deserve to fight for the ticket to Vienna on Friday night:

Celina Ann – “Utopia

Dawa – “Feel Alive

The MakeMakes – “I Am Yours

Folkshilfe – “Who You Are

Johann Sebastian Bass – “Absolutio

Zoe – “Quel filou

The Jury did their magic!
The Jury did their magic!

International songwriters worked their magic on the Austrian songs. We owe our thanks to Sharon Vaughn, who wrote for example Helena Paparizou’s “Survivor“, Julie Frost, songwriter of Lena’s “Satellite” and Jimmy Harry, who collaborated with Bruno Mars.

Now what do you think? Is Austria taking it seriously in 2015? Who is your favourite?

Despite some of the unqualified comments here, my home country really proved that it is very much interested in sending a high quality entry to the Vienna 2015 issue of ESC: Well done (so far). The dangerous part arrives on Friday when the Austrian public has to decide via Televoting the Austrian entry because sadly, it’s always better not to give Austrians too much opportunity to vote as reflected in horrible voting results during political election times. And of course ESC: Conchita was determined by the broadcaster ORF last year without asking the public. And it paid off ,) I’m… Read more »

But for a quaranteed place in the final, Austria would have probably (maybe even no doubt) stayed in the semifinal. It is very odd, but the only song which is worth listening is the one in French 🙂 I am a little bit surprised. A winning country usually tries to be in top 10. It is a matter of “defending its title”. Currently, I feel that last year’s entry was just an exception in the not very effective recent history of Austria at Eurovision.

Ahh….Austria
You win with a great song and then go back to you non-qualifying songs 🙂
But seriously no top 10 songs
no top 15 songs
Very unlikely to get in the Top 20 with these songs.
The host country is supposed to have a top 10 song I mean Germany hosted and came 10th despite the fact Germany before 2010 placed as bad as France and the UK.
Austria don’t embarrass yourselves I know you don’t want to win but these songs are pathetic and wouldn’t even get to the final.

I think Absolutio would be the best choice because this ESC already looks too serious for me. My favourite song is I Am Yours though, but the singer has very limited vocal capabilities and looks pressed while singing. Same for Folkshilfe, their voices are really bad.

Zoe is so great! Also Celina Ann has a nice voice, although I liked her non-entry songs better. Please Austria, just don’t send those awful folkshilfe… their strange acting and attempt to combine “volksmusik” with modern pop music is pathetic, and their voices are at least mediocre.

Dont know what the rest of you have between your ears, but the only song that is going to do well for austria is CELINA ANN UTOPIA

I’m liking Zoe the best so far…she had the audience with her clapping along…good sign. Most of the others are average or hard to bear…but, for some reason, I feel Austria will send something quirky like JSB!

The French song is so french it almost seems like a parody, maybe that’s the whole point? idk, I like it either way but I don’t think it has a chance of winning.

JSB should win and bring some fun into this overly-serious edition of ESC. Austria is the host country, they can allow themselves to have a joke entry, and the song is not even bad.

I havent seen the semifinals but these 6 finalists are all good!
I have to go with Dawa and specialy Folkshilfe, they made music organically and brought out a genuine emotion without the need of a wig.

BTW: At some parts, Zoe´s song, sounds like “I will survive”

For me Dawa (for me best) or Folkshilfe
But I think fight for victory wili be between The MakeMakes (on my 3 rd place)and Johann Sebastian Bass and maybe Dawa.

I dunno what is more extreme – those clowns from Johann Sebastian Bass or a French song in the middle of Vienna representing the host nation/Austria.

I mean…really?

From all these songs, I do like the French one. I feel awkward.

If they choose “Absolutio” after Conchita’s appearance last year (and Trackshittaz some years ago), I think that Austria will be deemed as the country of freaks. 🙂

Of the Finalist Songs: 1) Folkshilfe – Who You Are – I actually really like this. I would never expect me to like them but I do and I don’t know why. 2) Dawa – Feel Alive – Eh, kinda disappointed. I had high hopes for them but this song is just ok. 3) Celina Ann – Utopia – A poor man’s Maja Keuc. Don’t really like it but it may be Austria’s best hope for a somewhat high placing. Has some serious 80s sounds to it. 4) The Makemakes – I Am Yours – He sounds good but this… Read more »

Omg, I’ve just listened to all six songs and the song that left the best impression for me was… ABSOLUTIO! This song is absolutely catchy and since Opera Skaala didn’t make it, I think these guys should make it!! <3 😀

Please don't pick The MakeMakes – another ballad. ;_;

I wonder how the auto tune will work for Johan Sebastian Bass (if they win the national final), since live “instruments” can’t be played live on stage.

The Austrian entry was actually chosen tonight. It was between “Monsters” and “Absolutio”. The final show will be just the confirmation. Good choice, I might add.
