Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix has just finished and there are no more national finals taking place this year. With a break from the usual format, MGP 2015 saw no semi-finals and simply had an 11 act final. With some real throwbacks to the past – including ex-Eurovision winner Elisabeth “Bettan” Andreassan taking part and the return of the live orchestra – it was Mørland & Debrah Scarlett with “A Monster Like Me” who ended up being victorious and will be going to Eurovision 2015!

I usually like Norwegian entries, but this one is bland for me.

@Britney I agree, her voice is amazing, I’ve heard it live. But all of the sincerity and genuinity has been sucked out of her music by the pop machine.

@Easpag + she writes music by herself (mostly). Who You Are is a livesaver. Alive was total flop. Sweet Talker is better, but nothing, except Bang Bang, get popular.

@Easpag I agree that Who You Are is the best album by her. I was disappointed when I first heard Alive. But Sweet Talker has some great songs (Said Too Much, Your Loss I’m Found, Sweet Talker and Masterpiece). Bang Bang is my least favorite. I don’t know, I just love her vocals, but I guess she will never be that girl I fell in love in 2010, before she was famous. That’s the reason why most music on my playlist is by unpopular artists.

@Britney what? You don’t like mainstream pop artists but you do like Jessie J? Ever since she became famous, Jessie has become one of the biggest slaves to the pop industry that I have ever seen. Who you are was a very good album, but ever since, all of her music has been absolutely awful.

@Charles and I watch and follow Eurovision not because of music, but the whole process. I like the idea of contest.

@Charles did I said that I hate slow songs? Las Vegas show songs are even worse. 40 out of 100 songs on my playlist is slow. I don’t know what it is with Eurovision songs, but I don’t like most of them. I don’t like vocals everyone considering amazing here (like Greece or Spain), and I hate all those pop artists (like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga) as well. If somebody wants to know what I like – I like voices like Kat Dahlia (most people don’t know her) or Passanger. From pop artists I like Jessie J, Pink and… Read more »

@BritneyHooker: You don’t have to watch Eurovision … get some money and fly to Las Vegas and see some nice playback performances … it’s fun and uptempo the whole damn time … and no slow music is involved. See? Why wasting time with … music? You have Britney giving you what you want, which is in technical words: nothing! Have fun! 🙂 Back to the song! STUNNNNNNNING! Definitively an awesome winning song from Norway. Loved the fact that the show has LIVE music played by an outstanding orchestra. The voting was however bizarre … Norwegians were a bit too Swedish… Read more »

@bavarson agree. They wrote song by themselves and they work so hard. I live near social care centre and people there just sit on a bench and ask for cigarettes.

@bavarson I can see why you think Poland and Greece has the best ballads – those two are most similiar songs to each other this year. We have 3 blonde girls (Greece, Poland and Russia) with very similiar songs. And if people are complaining about how Malta, Switzerland and Latvia are so similiar, then they are wrong. Latvia has really original song. Aminata’s voice is more powerful than FKA Twigs. Maltese song is totally different from Latvian entry. And Switzerland is somewhere between.

Greece and Poland have clearly the best ballads this year, but fascists from jury will not vote for them, because they represent poor countries from eastern Europe, and they are low in odds.

Don’t know why I’m still watching this show. Most songs are songs what grannies would listen. Ok, my top: 1. Latvia 10/10 (I’m obsessed with this song. It’s my #1 hit followed by Kat Dahlia – I Think I’m In Love and Bebe Rexha – Gone) 2. Slovenia 9/10 (love her voice, love her style) 3. Estonia 8/10 (all top 4 songs are on my playlist. I thibk top 3 will stay like this till the end of the show) 4. United Kingdom 7/10 (it’s original. I want someone to make TRAP remix for this. I even have this on… Read more »

@Jingo:

I don’t think so. Despite being the first performance, Thunderstruck entered the Gold Final. And since they did another live, he actually had the benefit of being the last one in the second running order. Besides that, it’s not like people didn’t vote for him, he was a close second.

It’s also the best so far in the ESC together with Estonia.

I wouldnt be surprised if this song flops. I thought this would win in a landslide in Norway but it didn’t. I did prefer Erlend and Karin (I havent seen their live performances yet) and I think they would have been better choices.

I love the song but the live perfomance was missing something. Its not a winner and clearly inspired by Calm after the storm, they also worked mainly with a steady cam. The pizza song was hilarious, loved it too and i feel embarassed for liking it lol, cant helpt it!

The best song won, but I also agree that Karin Park deserved superfinals. However, I was happy for all performers who made it, since all looked so happy.

Somehow this feels like 90% of introduction and once the song has really started, the famous 3 minutes are already over. But I’d like to be surprised by a strong presentation and stageing which might make the difference and let it appear a bit more interesting.

Im just sad as this is just another ballad. Theres no fun in this years contest, except for finland there is nothing to have a laugh about. (dont mean it in a bad way, we can be happy with them!) When the pizza song made it to the gold final I got really high hopes. jokes on me, again.

Best song associated with ESC 2015 remains JSB’s Heart of Stone tho. Why couldn’t that masterpiece compete in WsfÖ… I guess Austria didn’t want to host it again next year.

Thought the Thunderstruck song was overrated, and it would have had the same fate as Tooji.

My hopes for Semi-Final 2: Malta, Latvia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Israel, San Marino (with their unknown song lol). The rest perhaps Ireland (jury will love it), Azerbaijan, and Iceland or Lithuania. Tough semifinal.

Monster is a class song and will score all over the continent on the night. But they need to think about visuals and staging as it looked like a 1972 entry tonight. Vocally they are very good, (he is more secure than her.) BUT, can we have a truce on the “too many ballads” theme…this is one of the best if not the best. Don’t aim you fire at them because Norway chose late: aim your fire at the Macedonias and Greeces who chose ordinary down tempo numbers which will soon be forgotten. The Monster lives on!

A nice song to hear on the radio for sure, but the performance is really boring. Not so sure about this. Feels like My Heart Is Yours 2010 all over again. Norway seriously need to do something if they want to reach the top 10.

It’s a very good song and my favourite of the duets, but I must say Karin Park deserved to win this. I mean…she at least deserved the super final. How did crap like Tor & Bettan, Staysman & Lazz, and Erlend Bratland make it, yet amazing songs like “Human Beings” and “Next to You” didn’t? Shame on you Norway, yet you did make up for it at the end.

This is a great song – haunting and understated yet memorable.

BUT, I think that this will have it’s point tally eaten into by Estonia in the final and visa versa which could potentially remove them both from the running for the top spot.(Which I hope is not the case as Eesti truly deserves to win so far!) However I expect a minimum of top 5 for both!

My Top 10 (11) as it stands:-
1)Estonia
2)Latvia
3)Germany
4)Portugal
5)Spain
6)Israel
7)Switzerland
8)Slovenia/Belgium
