Let there be no doubt: Loïc Nottet can handle “Rhythm Inside”. Earlier this morning Belgium’s 18-year-old superstar popped by the studio of Belgian radio program Ornelis & Vancoillie and delivered an intense performance of his Eurovision 2015 song. His vocals were stellar and on-point. But perhaps more important is the fact that he is feeling this song. His body pulsates to the rhythm inside, and his face contorts and contracts to form all manner of expressions. That he is responding to the number makes us want to respond to it too. Brussels 2016?

Loïc Nottet – Rhythm Inside live performance

Update: Loïc has also performed “Rhythm Inside” live on Belgium radio station Joe FM – and his vocals are just as impressive.

“his face contorts and contracts to form all manner of expressions”
That might not be good on the night

most soul singers don’t know how to emote the way Loic does, it is VERY impressive. My fear is that Europe won’t understand it– but I can tell you that from an American perspective, this kid has got IT!

I’m unpleasantly surprised. Till now it has been one of my favourites. If this version is going to be presented on the stage, it will not be any more. The studio version was much better. This one lacks something. Maybe just this song is good only to listen it on the radio, but not live on the stage. I’m confused.

I am from Belgium. Loic said that he doesn’t want 5 backing vocals only standing there after there micro. Loic will dance and so must his backings to. I really think he will do everything to make it to the final. He will make a show on the stage.

WoW, even better than the studio version! Totally in love with this!!! I’m just so curious about what they will do with the staging. It could really make it or break it… I’m really rooting for him! Brussels 2016!!!! 🙂

He’s trying to hard and it’s ruining it. He can’t use the backing vocals on tape in Vienna and the backing needs to be on point. Until the first chorus he sounds okay but he can’t really handle the chorus. I don’t think this will sound good in the Wiener Stadhalle if it sounds average in a small studio.

@Eugene ESC UK: I don’t really get all the fuss about this song being similar to Royals. Is it the finger snapping noise? Is it all it takes to be qualified as a rip off? Because that’s the only resemblance I can think of. And even if it was true, Lorde currently has a huge success, it’s only normal that she influences other contemporary singers. And as you pointed out: Conchita Wurst = James Bond Theme rip off, Cliché Love Song = Bruno Mars rip off, Children of the Universe = Ellie Goulding rip off, etc. Don’t even get me… Read more »

The performance was fine. But that’s a radio studio, not a live venue. This proves that he can stand perfectly still in a room with a microphone and headphones, no audience, and perform the song pretty well. He’s still a bit pitchy, but on this type of song it really doesn’t matter that much. His backing track still has all those vocals on it, and that’s my second biggest concern about this song. Even if he can pull it off, can his backup singers? My biggest concern is the staging. They could really ruin this one if they try to… Read more »

I think this may be Sweden’s big Achilles heel. They chose a sexy male singer who can put on a show, but vocally he can’t hold a candle to the other male singers he is up against (Belgium, Italy, Estonia, Australia etc.)

@Deven O’Kearney, @ct: I absolutely love this song too. The only reason I don’t think of him as a winner (yet) is because I think his song is too far away from the Eurovision style. It’s a niche, and I’m not sure it will appeal to an older audience. There are other songs this year who have the typical package to win (ia Italy, Spain, Sweden and Greece). But like you said, he’s taking a risk and that risk might well pay off! Wait and see. One sure thing is that he’s an amazing singer! 🙂

@ Deven

I agree. Just like Conchita, he takes a big risk but it is a risk based on an amazing voice.

This could very well be the surprise winner of Eurovision 2015 in the same way Austria was a shock winner of Eurovision 2014 to some extent.

F**k, he is an absolutely amazing singer. Wow. Wow.

There is no doubt in my mind anymore that he will qualify. In fact there is a very strong chance he will finish first ahead of Estonia.

@ Yeah Eugene…Indeed..
Another copy cat that was even more obvious was of course the song *Don’t Stop* of Isa in Swedish Melodifestivalen..
You could just claim that it was a cover of Taylor Swift’s **Shake It Off** in swedish language by a 16 years old bimbo called Isa.. 😛 hehe 😉

It’s a really tough song to sing and he absolutely kills it (in the good way). I’d hope that the jury rates him high accordingly.

His voice is amazing but he screams a little bit! Hope he doesen’t scream in May! He is also my 4th place in my Top 40! Good luck Belgium 🙂

I think he is trying too much on this live version. Like the song though.

Regarding the video, he had a voice that scared me in that i was worried it would sound good in the studio and worse live. Fears qualmed, but I should have expected more from a winner of the Voice.

Mario, love what you bring to the comments, but if he is not a fan, perhaps those of us who make it Vienna can help him see what a great experience Eurovision can be then. Hate and indifference are two different concepts and in this case, i think indifference can be changed. That way, he can be an alum that more is like the Bobbysocks and embracing it, as opposed to Sandie Shaw and denying it.

I do not like unfortunately *Rhythm Inside*…I’m not impressed with this song.. Its like i’m listening an alternative male cover version of *Royals* by Lorde… Way too similar with that tune…They have exactly the same rhythm.. The entry of Belgium is out of my top10 qualifiers {i have it 12th from the 16} on the 1st semifinal and out of my top30 too.. But i think that Belgium has chances of qualifying and even doing very good maybe as many others eurofans like this song instead.. But to see Belgium even winning the Diamond Vision ok that’s completely out of… Read more »

I love his voice, it’s so unusual (and in a good way). I have to say that it took me several listens to grasp it but now it’s one of my favourites.
