Russia’s Polina Gagarina may have the most Youtube views on the official Eurovision channel, but Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw is dominating the charts on streaming service Spotify.

Sweden and Italy are not only leading on betting odds, but also on the Spotify plays. Måns currently has over 13 million plays, putting him well ahead of Italy’s Il Volo, who have 2.2 million plays, and Spain’s Edurne, who is in the third place with 1.2 million plays. Norway’s Mørland & Debrah Scarlett and Netherlands’ Trijntje Oosterhuis round out the top five.

We shouldn’t rush to any major conclusions just yet. Spotify, the world’s most popular streaming service, was founded in Sweden. Streaming now accounts for a staggering 79% of the Swedish record music market and Spotify has higher penetration in its home market than anywhere else in the world. It makes sense that the Swedish contestant would have a natural leg up here.

And Spotify isn’t available in all markets. Many countries including Russia, Azerbaijan, Romania and Serbia don’t even have access to it.

Of course, having access to Spotify doesn’t necessarily mean your country is listening to you though. Slovenia and Belarus don’t have Spotify but the Eurovision acts from those countries have more streams than those from Ireland and Cyprus, countries that do have access. They are ranked last and next-to-last.

You can draw your own conclusions from the full list of streams below:

Why is Mans on pedestal on this picture? Is he so self-assured? C c c …

Italian guys look so cute together. Gianluca is the most beautiful guy this year and Edurne is the most beautiful woman this year. 🙂

I hope so badly Italy or Sweeden not to win! I want an Eurovision like Dusseldorf 2011 or even last year. This year’s winner I guess will surprise us. I bet Spain, Slovenia or Albania will take the trophy home!

Where were Conchita and the Common Linnets on Spotify three weeks before the ESC 2014??? Beware of the dark horse with a late run from the back of the field.

I’m just happy that I can listen to these songs in the U.S.! Grande Amore and Tonight Again were already available but glad that Heroes, A Monster Like Me, and Amanecer is available for American listeners.

bavarson, what is your point ? Should no-one listen to any of the songs before the contest ? You can’t stop people from playing the songs they like.

I hate that outsiders are strongly promoted before ESC because this is bad socialism.
