We know that most of y’all know who Armenian superstar Sirusho is – and if you don’t, then we have to ask the question “Where Were You?”, just like she does in her latest single. Sirusho represented Armenia back in 2008, placing in the top five with the killer “Qéle Qéle“. She won plenty of fans then and has been keeping them happy since, most notably with singles like “Pregomesh” in 2012 and “See” in 2014, a duet with Greek Eurovision legend Sakis Rouvas.

Both the Armenian and English versions of “Where Were You?” are presented in one video. The song starts off in a relaxing, voice-over way before Sirusho unleashes her power in the chorus, holding those long, high notes and expressing the pain of the song, which overtly references the Armenian genocide in this, the centenary year of the tragedy. The song seamlessly mixes modern pop with traditional Armenian sounds — a Sirusho signature.

When you hear the song in Armenian, it has the same feel as the English version – but oddly, it feels as if Sirusho has trouble singing it to the beat. But y’all can’t deny her voice or abillity to work the camera. Sirusho shines like the diva we know she is. And can we add that she is looking fierce in these traditional Armenian clothes (dare we say that she’s showing the Genealogy girls how it’s done?).

Do you like what Sirusho has done with “Where Were You” and would you like to see her back at Eurovision one more time? Let us know in the comments below, or on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

@Danny. The estimated number of victims in Khojali is 200-1000, officially. It is classified as massacre, not genocide. It was a tragedy, because every victim is one too much and in vain. However, the Armenian genocide is on of the most horrible things that’s happened in the human history. Germany did well when they apologized the disaster that nzis did, and the German people can now live proudly and appreciated by other nations. The Osmans made something very disgusting and a horrible thing. I think it would be best for Turkey to stop denying the truth, and say they are… Read more »

I truly believe that Sirusho can take the Eurovision Song Contest to Yerevan. She is absolutely incredible and they need to get her back ASAP!

Yes I would love to see her back, I’m not that big of a fan of Qele Qele, but I’ve been loving everything Sirusho has released since then, specially Pregomesh and now this one, which I think are a lot better than her 2008 entry, if she ever comes back with something similar, mixing traditional armenian with modern sounds I think she would do very well.

Well than please listen to NIGAR JAMAL(NIKKI winner of2011) – EMPATHY FOR KHOJALY. Its about the Azerbaijani genocide in 1992 made by armenians. Ps. today is the 23th year of Shusha. Still 20% of Azerbaijani lands are occupied by armenians. I really laugh at armenians how they try to show their selfs ” we want justice”.. someone who wants justice will not occupy lands and will make genocides armenia! you have to learn the meaning of justice
