William: Call heaven — they’re missing an Angell. This morning the French songstress Lisa Angell put herself in major contention to win Eurovision 2015. Her LED screen simply and beautifully tells a story of perseverance — not just of the individual, but also of the French people who, in recent months, have stared terror in its face. The screen shows a city razed to the ground. As doves fly across the screen, the city slowly comes back to life. In the final moments three drummers appear on stage, and they multiply into dozens on the LED. As they march forward you can feel the power of Lisa’s voice and her lyrics: “I am here tonight, in the middle of these ruins, in order to talk about hope and to sing about life, and I make the promise that when the blood will dry, I will rebuild my village even more beautiful than before.”

France: Lisa Angell’s first rehearsal

Padraig: Epic staging. Stunning vocals. So so song. That’s the basic summary of France’s rehearsal. The use of the LED screen is genius. We watch as a vibrant town rises from post-war rubble. Doves flutter, an army of drummers arrive… this is totes emosh. Lisa’s singing is divine, and she clearly feels everything she sings. Sadly what she’s singing is rather dull. She won’t come dead last like Twin Twin, but this ain’t winning.

This will top the juries.

In 2010 France did well with the televote and bad with the juries. I think this year it will be opposite and I believe with this performance France can be in the middle of scoreboard or close to 10th place. There are way better songs that deserve top 10, but France doesn’t deserve to be at the bottom this year.

This is what I have been feeling since the start about this song, I only speak a bit of French but those lyrics are so emotive and the background really helps to transfer the sheer emotion of her voice. I really think this song deserves to be above the shallow ballads of the competition. I will be voting for Lisa come the final.

Go on Lisa!! <3

Blimey, William is so passionate about this. But I can see what he means. It makes me proud to be French even though I’m not French!

This song gives me similar vibes as France 2009. All I want to do is close my eyes and live in her voice. This is how you deliver a class act. Well done, France 8/10

It is nice to have a song to prop up all the rest. It certainly did not put itself “in major contention to win Eurovision 2015”.

Beautiful song, beautiful message, beautiful singer. The best french eurovision entrant since Allez Ola Ole in 2010. 🙂

I do not think that France will gonna finish at least last again though like last year..
This song will get saved from the last spot & we will see another song ending up last instead..
I think that Lisa Angell has chances to earn a place in the top20…

I am sorry guys, but this is fantastic. It has a story, it has emotion, it is staged beautifully, it is sung beautifully. Maybe too sophisticated for your “I am warrior, I dress like a crow, and I will rip your throats in a Game of thrones” kinda way?

This is a dull, not modern, and quite frankly a non song.. for me this is below France s standard of ballads.. it gives nothing in 3 minutes.

if this place higher than 25th she should be happy..

As long as she doesn’t come last, it’s all good.

I actually like that background, it looks cute! I love this song, it is powerful and she knows how to deliver it! Not expecting it to finish too high, but hopefully it will end France’s mediocre run of late.

That CGI background is awful, especially with the poorly scaled drummers in front of it.
