William: If you like neon pink, then you’re going to love this. Electro Velvet — aka Bianca & Alex — gave a very bright and endearing performance during their first rehearsal. Bianca wears a super pink dress that literaly (and electornically) lights up at the waist, while Alex looks dapper as always in his vintage suit. There are some nice staging elements — they have recreated the two staircases from their music video — and the camera angles are often very nice, as in a shot from behind the staircases looking back at the pair. The LEDs have a funky psychedelic vibe. The floor is dizzying, but fabulous.

And while ORF’s production team have done a good job adding a bit of gloss and shine to this number, it still feels a little flat and dated. The opening bars now feature all vocalists on stage shouting, “Dance!” It’s meant to get y’all in the mood to move, but it’s the most cringe-worthy moment in this and lets the rest of the act down. The two female dancers work well, but at times the two male dancers come off as awkward — most especially during the breakdance sequence. With a bit of tweaking this could do better than many predict, though I’m still predicting a finish outside the Top 20.

United Kingdom: Electro Velvet’s first rehearsal

Coming soon!

Padraig: Not a disaster! ORF have really done well with the staging. The beginning screams Great Gatsby, and could almost be from the movie set. Even when it descends into neon kitsch half way through, it’s ok, falling into the so bad it’s good category. Electro Velvet have also improved themselves. Bianca and Alex actually gel on stage now, and they’re starting to show some charisma. Sadly, none of this fixes the song. It still sounds cheap and horribly dated.

Hey, fellow Brits, there’s always next year. Let’s hope now the Tories are cutting the Licence Fee, esc moves from BBC to ITV and then the UK can do something amazing.

one of the very eurovision thing every year is to see how the British people get excited by their song, and fail at the and of the show. will Uk get “the nul points” this year? my answer is YES. even the average eurovision song this year is far far far better than the UK’s.

Now i think that UK can be saved not only from the last place but from the bottom last places in generall finishing even inside the top20…Even a top15 result is not impossible..
And all because their performance…Really great for Bianca & Alex of Electro Velvet & bravo for them… 🙂 If only they had a much better song on their hands…
By the way i like UK’s song more than the hella overrated song of Australia that is hyped as hot favorite to win our upcoming Vision..

It’s great to hear you being more positive about the UK guys, whatever happens Electro Velvet are putting their all into the performance, they’ve worked hard and the song is something different and it’s definitely fun. Good luck to them!

Ugh, BBC as usual trying to control everything when all other delegations let the host do their thing.

The rehearsal vid uploaded on ESC’s channel is now private. However, BBC Eurovision Facebook page uploaded another version of the clip which only shows the beginning.

Also, to the criticisms of it being dated: there’s a difference between dated and retro – dated is I Want Your Love, this is retro (definition: ‘imitative of a style or fashion from the recent past’).

Oh yeah this ma ja-yam! I don’t think its dated. Other electro swing artists like Yolanda Be Cool and Mayra Veronica are in the current charts. Here, in South Africa, acts like Goodluck and Goldfish also do exceptionally well with songs like this. The Big 5 this year are probably the best than ever before!

For me the backing vocalist are the weakest link here but I don’t blame them since they’re playing two roles; dancers and vocalists. But the staging looks fun and more alive than Molly’s did last year!

Quite like the staging but the backing singers sound awful! Please fix it (or at least turn their mics down) before the next rehearsal!

This is one of the better uptempo songs of 2015. It will surprise everyone and place within the top10.

If they sort out the backing singers then it’s my winner. A very enjoyable song that gets you foot tapping.

I think its really different to everything. I love the staging, I think its one of the best so far, but I do agree with Will that the ‘Dance!’ bit sounds a bit out of place, its one step to far. Plus I think the backing vocals really need some tweaking!!!!!! But I think it could finish top 20 because it is so different, however I think that we will be heading to Riga in 2016!

I don’t mind this song, going on all the promo tour certainly helped their chemistry and they both have strong vocals. But seriously please getting backing vocalists that can sing! In the 30 sec clip they sound atrocious!

Whatever you think about the song, you can’t really deny that this is the most fun performance. Everyone else comes across overly serious and almost bored, apart from Israel.

Looks just like the music video lmao. I’m not a fan at all – it’s in my Bottom Three along with Cyprus and Finland, but good luck to them, they seem like nice people and I love Bianca’s voice.
