The first semi final may have just come to a close, but the Eurovision odds have already changed dramatically – with Russia and Serbia surging up to become some of the favourites for the win according to Oddschecker.

betting odds changes

Russia’s Polina Gagarina is now the second favourite to win Eurovision 2015 following her breathtaking performance in semi final one. The momentum had been picking up for Polina during the rehearsals and coupled with a very handy place in the second half of Saturday night’s final, could we be heading to Russia for Eurovision for the second time?

Also rising in the odds is Bojana Stamenov for Serbia. It’s fair to say that “Beauty Never Lies” nearly lifted the roof off the Wiener Stadthalle this evening and that clearly came across on TV screens as well, with Bojana now the sixth favourite to win. This puts her just behind Estonia, with Elina & Stig shortening with some markets, yet lengthening in others, perhaps showing some uncertainty still about “Goodbye to Yesterday”. Belgium’s odds have also been cut, but Loïc Nottet still remains at 33/1 to one at his lowest.

The pressure has therefore been put on Sweden, Italy and Australia, who have all seen their odds drift as a result of Polina’s momentum. That could still all change on Thursday after Mans Zelmerlow’s performance in the second semi final, but right now the market is filled with “A Million Voices”!

My prediction: 1 Sweden 2 Italy 3 Australia 4 Estonia 5 Belgium 6 Cyprus 7 Slovenia 8 Azerbaijan 9 Norway 10 Serbia I don’t think the power ballads will do well. There are too many, so the votes of those who love the ballads will be split. Especially Russia is hugely overrated in the predictions. They will probably get a decent number of votes of the countries in their power sphere, but I don’t think many European citizens will vote for such a lot of hypocrisy from Moscow. “Love and peace”, while the Russians are killing Georgians and Ukrainians as… Read more »

I found there were three WOW performances – Russia, Estonia & Belgium. Serbia was fourth but didn’t score a WOW.
The worst was The Netherlands. It was a train wreck.
Georgia did turn out to be the toilet break song. It was conveniently placed before the voting. I watched a minute of it but the staging was predictable and a big yawn, just like the song.

I love Russia’s song but I don’t think they should win. The security of the fans couldn’t be guaranteed and a lot of countries maybe would withdraw because of Russia’s politics.
Now to Serbia. I really don’t like the song, the show was good though. But in the end it’s a song contest and I can’t imagine them winning. Overrated!

To all the people pointing out how the surge of Serbia is ridiculous and the betting odds don’t hold any value – because, hey, “they had Finland up there until recently” – your premise is weak, because Finland fell out of top 10 in the odds *after* people saw their performance last night.
And Serbia climbed to the top after they performed, left a good impression and got the biggest cheer of the night. It really hit the spot, in all its silliness and campiness. It felt honest and spontaneous, Bojana was charismatic and she brought that essence of Eurovision.

Okay, was I the only one who listened to Russian entry and heard breathy singing, not very good vocals and well….fairly stupid mumbo-jumbo about peace, love and freedom – which is exactly the opposite in Russia? Lets not also forget how they choose their songs – no national contest, they pick a singer, who then chooses a song.

Nevertheless, let the best (wo)man win!

Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi 2016, will be amazing! Russia is still the biggest economic giant in Europe, so they will organise an unforgettable Eurovision show, with really BIG stage!I really hope Polina to win! She deserve the victory! Great song, beautiful and talented singer, and amazing staging! GO POLINA, GO RUSSIA!

No matter how I dislike the hypocrysy behind the the Russian song, I must admit that Polina Gagarina totally owned the semi-final 1. Catchy song, powerful voice and visuals. Glad that my favorite Belgium got through. I am surprised that Albania and Serbia qualified, but there were 10 slots to fill and I dont miss any of the non-qualifiers either. And I am honestly happy for not seeing Finland in the final.

Belarus and the Netherlands are 11th and 12th i guess. Hungary and Greece placed 10th 9th. Serbia won’t be much of a deal in the final on the right side of the score board. Russia, Estonia, Belgium, Sweden and Spain are fighting for victory! Hot favorite Albania dissapointed me :/ Armenia has to get their act together, Hungary a little bit nervous, but beautifull. I think their are alot of surprises yet to come. I would place my money on Spain or Russia.

It’s a big shame for eurovision that serbia is too high. But you will see as every year the betting odds are a complete joke. For example my country greece last year was 6th in the odds and came 20th.The same is gonna happen to serbia on saturday.

I’m sick of hearing about these stupid betting odds. For the last 4 months they had Finland on top, and they didn’t even qualify. Year after year, they get it wrong. Seriously, does anybody give credit to these so called odds, except the betters themselves?

It’s unlikely that the contest will be hosted in Russia given that conditions for the LGBT community have gotten worse since the EBU sent them that warning.

Definitely! If Serbia is going to win, all the quality of the other songs wil get lost.
Serbia”s performance was circus and I don”t want that to win because everyone Who said it is a circus will be proven right.

On top of that, we don”t need a coming out song again.

About Russia, I guess I can see why so many people liked it, but personally I liked the estonian performance more than the russian for instance, but to each their own.

C’mon PEOPLE !!! You have to be blind and deaf to not appreciate this YOUNG GEORGIAN girl who came out of stage alone and absolutely blew our minds ! Anyone with a bit of understanding in music industry will agree that she was the outstanding leader of Tonight’s show ! And by the way she wrote that song! Russia’s Polinina or whatever her name is so fake I don’t even have to comment anything about her , her country is well hated for invading its neighbours and discriminating Gay people , nothing special about her song ! I can’t get over all the hype for Serbia. I’m sorry for all the fans out there and it’s nothing against Serbia or their representants: but this is the sort of song that still gives ESC a bad name 🙁

To see this just comming after a classy performance such as Estonia… I mean, seriously?

Deven – Despite their economic troubles, Russia is still a large wealthy country and would no doubt be able to afford Eurovision. My biggest fear with Russia winning would be mass boycotts from Western/Northern Europe. But otherwise, I’d love Eurovision to come to Saint Petersburg should they win, truly a beautiful city I’m happy to have been able to visit.

Sure Polina was good, but I wasn’t really that impressed by her vocals or staging. I thought Estonia were superior, specially because their staging is clever and really tells a story without falling into cliches. I expect Italy’s odds to shorten after their second rehersal.
The whole Serbia thing has just been blown out of proportion.

How on Earth is Serbia in the Top 10. Don’t think Russia will win either, but I do feel Top 3. I’m pretty sure the winner will either be Estonia/Georgia/Belgium or come from semi-final 2, can’t see any of the automatic qualifiers winning.

I am from Greece and very proud about Cypriot Helena ,was perfect. I will vote many times for United Kingdom .Few votes for Russia and Estonia. And who knows, maybe a vote for France, Spain, Denmark, Iceland or Malta. It depends on their performance at the final.I don’t like Cyprus’s song , so sorry my Cypriots friends even if Cyprus be in final, this time zero points. But my prediction is that Sweden will win.My favorite song is this from UK but it is difficult to see it in Top 10. My prediction now. 1) Estonia 2) Russia 3) Italy 4)… Read more »

Get some perspective Deven. Regardless of Gagarina (who I also think is super), Russia’s ‘bad treatment’ last year didn’t come out of nothing. Watch Channel Four’s ‘Hunted’. Then you’ll see some truly bad treatment and people going through hard times. They aren’t victims of politics, they’re victims of hate.

I’ll be happy for Russia to win Eurovision 2015. Hence bringing the contest to Moscow or St. Petersburg next year. They were very badly treated last year. Give them a break. They’ve a hard time of it already. I think if you really want a fair contest, let Russia win. Not boo them because of their political beliefs. You also need to consider that Russia is going through a very tough time at the moment as far as money is concerned. The ruble has collapsed and there is going to be a lot of people struggling and unable to put… Read more »

For me the standout acts tonight were: 1) Belgium 2) Russia 3) Greece and 4) Serbia. So, they all deserved the final. Georgia was impressive for its staging, so also deserved to move on to Saturday’s final. Anyway, congrats to all the finalists! Looking forward to the second semi on Thursday! 😀
