Despite their Eurovision elimination during Thursday’s second semi final, San Marino’s Anita Simoncini and Michele Perniola were in great humour when we bumped into them in the press centre yesterday. You’d never know that Michele had just caused a minor internet furore.

It all started when the “Chain Of Lights” singer sent a tweet comparing Sweden’s entry to David Guetta’s “Lovers on the Sun”. Despite later claiming it was a joke, the tweet came up during the qualifiers press conference, with Måns Zelmerlöw dismissing any notion of plagiarism.

Of course, we had to find out more and asked the one time Junior Eurovision star if someone had hijacked his profile. This caused Michele to break into a fit of laughter, before he composed himself and said “it’s true”. The shade of it all!

With the awkward questions out of the way we moved onto safer topics such as the duo’s thoughts on their performance, potential new music from the pair and the future of Anita’s girl group, The Peppermints. And pay close attention for cameos from Junior Eurovision 2014 winner Vincenzo Cantiello and Arianna Ulivi of the Peppermints.

You can watch the full interview below.

The only song that doesn’t remind me of anything is “Chain of Lights”. Because there is no other crappy song like this in the whole universe, period.

I’m laughing my ass off.

@ Erin San Marino hasn’t given points to Italy as far as I remember. And the Italians were making jokes like : don’t give them anymore energy or water and stuff like this cause they never support Italy in Eurovision.

PLEASE READ THIS AND REACT: There is obviously a lot of animosity going on between Italy and Sweden (at least when it comes to each country’s taste of songs). Ever since Italy returned in 2011, it NEVER awarded Sweden with even a single point! Even back in 1991, the Italian jury almost took the victory away from Carola by giving France the Douze points and Sweden with nothing. There’s obviously something deeper going on here because Sweden NEVER gave Italy any points since 2011 too… So obviously this will repeat itself in 2015, but I find this as very ugly… Read more »

I was wondering what Vincenzo thinks of Il Volo but you didn’t ask 🙁
Also about Michele, that comment was uncalled for when his song was basically very similar to ‘If we all gave a little’ (Switzerland 2006) even if the composer was the same.

It seems like the EBU doesn’t want Sweden to win, that’s why this rumor has been spread.

He has a point. Whether he made final or not is completely irrelevant.

Well…Just not cool at all of Michele…Even if there is indeed plagiarism with Mans’ song 4 Michele to do this right after he was eliminated on the SF wsa just not fine.. San Marino’s song was total outsider and it was expected to not finish 11th-12th-13th-14th-15th behind the top10 qualifiers.. Almost everyone had Michele & Anita last on the semifinal.. And i was in the small minority of the eurofans that favored their song.. Really not classy behaviour attitude of him.. Well i can understand as he is just a 16 years old teenager boy and is not really mature… Read more »

Really? Who’s he to judge and bash other contestants? You don’t have to act like a jerk just because Europe did not vote for your crappy entry.

jokes on him, he got eliminated and Mans got through.
If every song that reminds another is plagiarism, we wouldn’t have this ESC. Mans=Guetta, Loic=Lorde, Polina=Dion, Il Volo=every other Italian song, and etc. which is ridiculus. The only song that doesn’t remind me of anything is “Chain of Lights”. Because there is no other crappy song like this in the whole universe, period.
