Eeeieeeeeoooo! Edurne may have finished 21st on Satuday evening, but the Spanish tigress isn’t slowing down. Today our beloved Spanish songstress released “Break of Day”, the English version of “Amanecer”. It’s for all y’all who didn’t get what devuélveme el alma en pie meant. Listen to the English and feel the passion (and the pain)!

“Break of Day” comes with a sleek music video, which may well have been an alternative LED for Edurne at Eurovision. The animal theme continues, though this time the tigers are out and we instead see a giant whale surfacing for air. In matters of the heart, it’s important to breathe.

Eurovision may be over, but the release of the English version is a reminder that “Amanecer” lives on. It will be the official song for La Vuelta a España 2015, one of the world’s most important cycling events. The sun isn’t setting, y’all!

The English lyrics fit the song well: “I won’t suffocate, I don’t want to wait, I will change this state I’m in.” They work so well, in fact, that it begs the question: Do you think the tigress should have sung in English instead of Spanish at Eurovision? Do you think Edurne would have done better if she had gone this route? Let us know below!

“BREAK OF DAY” LYRICS — Edurne

I won’t suffocate
I don’t want to wait,
I will change this state I’m in
These chains ’round my heart,
Tied up break apart,
I won’t let this moment drown me
I see it,
I feel it

Eeeieeeeo!

I’ll run run for,
the sake of war
Until I run run run no more

Alive feeling dead,
inside in my head,
I hear the voice of freedom
I’m out of control,
I’m in, just say go!

Eeeieeeeo!

I’ll run run for,
the sake of war
Until I run run run no more

Eeeieeeeo!

I’ll break away,
I just can’t stay,
I’ll run, run ’til the break of day!

I see it,
I feel it

Eeeieeeeo!

Eeeieeeeo!

I’ll run run for,
the sake of war
Until I run run run no more

Eeeieeeeo!

I’ll break away,
I just can’t stay,
I’ll run, run ’til the break of day!

The English lyrics are not good. There is a Hungarian amount of running going on.

These lyrics are almost as bad as the journalism in the article – will you stop with the “Y’all” please?? it makes your blog appear cheap and tacky!

First you need to listen to this version a few times.
Then listen to the Spanish one, love it.

Maybe, dear Edurne (or rather RTVE-Team), it might have been a good idea to release this BEFORE the contest… just saying…

I adore this. Love it almost as much as the original – Amanecer remains in my own personal Top 5 regardless of the Eurovision results. Keep on slaying Edurne <3

I was disappointed to see how low Edurne placed on the scoreboard with this song. However, I do think the song is definitely a grower for a non-spanish listener. The first time I heard it I didn’t get it at all. Now it ranks as one of my top 3 songs from this year. I was singing along with thr lyrics on Sat night despite not having a clue what they meant.

The english version is a mess and lacks the passion the Spanish one has.

I really enjoy this version, and I’m totally in love with the girl and her voice. Run run run!! Just in Europe, outside of Spain obviously, you can’t sing every song in Spanish.

Spain getting only15 points is a joke. Edurne deserved a spot in the top 10, at least… but well, that’s eurovision

I actually like the english lyrics more, they’re not as messy and nonsense as the spanish version. As a native spanish speaker I don’t understand either, phrases like “give me back, my standing soul” or “My heart whispered to me, don’t come back without my love” … I mean, what? They sound very poetic, but not very sensical. However I do love how the song sounds in spanish, even if the lyrics don’t make sense, so I’m undecided which version I prefer… But I’m happy Edurne sang in spanish, though promoting this english version could’ve been a good idea BEFORE… Read more »

Really? 2 days after the final? somebody was sleeping at the wheel here, either the management for Edurne don’t give a crap about Eurovision or they idiotically hijacked her score, I think the Spanish version is significantly better (no Idea why she didn’t score higher) we know that in Eurovision English songs fare better (because more people will understand the lyrics), the same happened with El Suneo de morfeo (one of my favorite bands) look at the results for Ruth Lorenzo and it should be obvious

I agree with you Oostenrijk

We never think about you (Europe) and the fact that you didn’t understand a word of the song. So you don’t care about, for example, Edurne crying saying “I don’t give up”.

It’s only a beautiful moment for us.

Spain, Portugal, France, Italy… haven’t the same concept about Eurovision than the rest of Europe. We don’t understand that Eurovision is not longer an event to show your culture or traditions, now is how to be 1st on Itunes.

I quite enjoy the Spanish version. I don’t speak Spanish, but once I found a translation of the lyrics, I was entranced by her passion. The English lyrics are a bit of a mess/phrase salad (especially the run run run parts), and I imagine that even if Edurne sings with the same force and passion, the lyrics might undercut her performance a bit. And I have to imagine it because the video is not available in the United States. (I really wish more countries would acknowledge Eurovision fans over here and make their videos available worldwide, but that’s a topic… Read more »

Why is she singing “Until I run run run no more” if this is a theme to a cycling event ? Shouldn’t that be “Until I pedal pedal no more ?

My boyfriend returned to Madrid today and just texted me that he was very excited to see the Spanish delegation and Edurne on the plane….. We both were big fans of her and Amanecer became our special song. “Mi corazón me susurro” <3<3<3 He could not understand why Edurne got such a low score and tried to explain to him that to the rest of Europe the performance was too much of everything, too dramatic and above all no one understood what the song was about. So at least singing in English would have helped, but also to keep the… Read more »

I like it, though I think the spanish version is much better. I mean, the composition is absolutely golden, but the lyrics in Spanish are better than in English. I don’t like the run run bits, whereas Amanecer was more about love and stuff (from my knowledge of spanish anyway) and not giving up.

Much better the Spanish version. She made better on rehearsal cos the arena was shouting out the song I guess. She made a teardrop.
I’m proud of her, I love her, it doesn’t matter the place she got, she is great and dam beautiful.

Even though I havent got the slightest clue what she sings in Spanish, I still prefer this over the English version. It just doesn’t work/fit as well as the Spanish one. Especially in the chorus the words just feel crammed in with the “run run run”. The verses however I do like, so perhaps a mix would have been the solution to make the audience understand what the song is about without losing the overall feel of the song.

I prefer Edurne singing in eglish actually..
Really tragedy that she scored so low in the scoreboard…Just big disappointment 4 our warrior tigress & her hottie babe Juseppe Di Bella.. <3

Amanecer is good song but she just deserved a much better song so to shine…
Maybe she will consider going again to our Vision in the future with a winning material song this time…
Spain is without victory in our Vision 4 over 46 years now & the spanish have to win & host the contest in their country at last.. <3 🙂

I speak Spanish, so I can tell you that the Spanish lyrics are completely different from this English version (and btw, they don’t even make any sense). It’s good that Edurne sang in Spanish, and I’ll always have more respect for countries who sing in their language.
