Along with host country Austria and guest country Australia, the Big Five — France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom — received an automatic qualification to the grand final of Eurovision 2015. We have a lot to thank the Big Five for: their coins help keep the contest going, and their big populations boost viewing numbers and hype. Unfortunately in 2015 only two automatic qualifiers managed to secure Top 10 finishes: Italy’s Il Volo (who came third) and Australia’s Guy Sebastian (who came fifth). But among this lot our readers had a different favourite. After counting 4,786 votes, we can now reveal that Spain’s Edurne was our readers’ favourite automatic qualifier.

The “Amanecer” singer finished with 1,422 votes, or more than 30% of all those cast. The Spanish beauty may have come 21st at Eurovision — Spain is still searching for answers why — but our readers could care less. They loved her voice. They loved that Giuseppi di Bella swung her around his neck. And they loved this killer dress reveal, which we filmed during the grand final.

This is Edurnity's #Eurovision dress reveal

Italy’s Il Volo finished with 1,398 votes, just 44 behind Edurne.

After our top two there was a huge drop in votes. Australia’s Guy Sebastian, who finishes third in our poll, could only muster 603 votes, followed by Germany’s Ann Sophie who earned 575.

The United Kingdom, France and Austria (who also finished last at Eurovision) round out our bottom three.

You can see our full results below. Who was your favourite automatic qualifier?

There must be some disadvantage to only performing on the Final as people who watch the semis will already know who to vote for. I don’t feel that Spain was as good as Italy (who completely stole the show) but even so maybe edge of top 10 would have been right (like Georgia, Serbia etc). Personally I loved France but the running order killed it and I thought that Germany didn’t deserve nil points…replace that with my country (the UK). Austria was horribly limp and didn’t make any impact and Australia deserved top 10 as well. Just feel that being… Read more »

Haters gonna hate, but Edurne (Spain) was amazing. She was one of best female performers that night and I can’t understand how someone can say she doesn’t have a good voice. She deserved more, as well as France and Austria. I didn’t like too much UK and Germany this year.

She’s a good performer. I think what caused her undoing was the yodeling part with hand movements & the over the top staging (i loved the male dancer though). Another dignified performance & she could end up in the top 10 like Pastora & Ruth (still 2 of my most favorite Spanish singers). I want to see more if her, so continued luck to her career 😀

Edurne sings much better than she did in the final.
She can dance and sing at the same time. Much better in rehearsals.
Anyway she will have her tours and albums in Spain.
The OF Austrian TV ruined the performance with the horrible production, nothing was as planned.

Italy and Australia performed exceptionally well though.

Spain went for the drama and fell hard vocally.

Italy (4th), Australia (5th) & Germany (6th) were in my Top 6. I did like Austria, France & Spain very much too. I thought the UK’s song was the worst this year. Rock bottom at 40th.

Her performance reminded me of Ireland last year. A really good song and had a lot of hype – but the second I heard her sing, i knew it was going to fail

Btw, she sang a few off-key notes.

No, no….
One of the most embarassing performances of the Grand Final was Edurne’s (together with Albania and Serbia).
The song is average, with no climax (I already said that), and the performance had to much things… the dress change, that copy of Tanja’s dance… anyway.
Guy Sebastian, Il Volo, Ann Sophie and The Makemakes were far away better!!!

The Contest got it right. Italy and Australia were clearly the best. But fans gonna fan …

This poll started before the final, therefore I doubt if it is relevant. After what we could see on the stage, many fans of Spain could have changed their opinions…

Italy and Australia were top 2 in my book…..epic performances

Austria was just horrendous

Germany did not deserve last place, but they didn’t deserve much higher, same with UK and France

Edurne DID deserve higher.

IMO: If UK, Germany and France want better results send LEGIT artists like Spain and Italy are (and not washed up ones from the 80s!)

The staging was good?? Her voice was just terrible. It was a good idea having power of the stage and everything, just her voice was so bad and thats what let the song down.

Congratulations to the tigress amazon Edurne 🙂 Her disappointing 21st place was one of the biggest injustices on this Vision {along with the elimination of Malta in the SF} And its really sad because if we check analytically the voting of each country Edurne was on descent place and not bad one… The problem was that she was not voted high enough so to break the top10 and receive any points… In almost all of the countries that did not vote Espana had Edurne’s song somewhere between 11th-20th.. It is the most unafir thing ever 4 the song that finishes… Read more »

Spain was probably the worst tbh, just behind the UK.
