It’s almost July and Eurovision 2015 is a rapidly fading memory. Before we lay it to rest and start obsessing over the 2015-2016 national selection season, we thought we would revisit Semi-Final 2 to find out which non-qualifier you think should have advanced to the Grand Final. You’ve had a lot of time to think about it…

We’d say never look back, the past is the past but where is the fun in that? Whether you wanted to cross seas with Portugal, light candles in San Marino, cling on to dying hopes like Czechs Marta and Vaclav, throw pixie dust around like Iceland’s Maria, stage a sexy dress reveal like Switzerland’s Mélanie René or serve Amazonian realness like Malta’s Amber, now you can have vengeance.

Vote in our poll to say who you think should have made it to the Grand Final! You can vote for as many countries as you would like, but you can only vote ONCE.

Semi-Final 2 Non-Qualifiers

MALTA – 11th PLACE

IRELAND – 12th PLACE

CZECH REPUBLIC – 13th PLACE

PORTUGAL – 14th PLACE

ICELAND – 15th PLACE

SAN MARINO – 16th PLACE

SWITZERLAND – 17th PLACE

Molly deserved to qualify, I was so sad when she didn’t. I know she wasn’t the best but still….. Also, Amber’s vocal’s were excellent, I was so surprised when she didn’t get through. I hope Ireland will have more of a selection next year to choose from, because 5 isn’t enough, 2013 – last in final, 2014 – didn’t qualify, and now, 2015 – didn’t qualify.

Malta, Czech republic and Portugal (If it had singing in English and with another perfomance) instead Cyprus, Lithuania and Poland.
Malta was my first favourite song, the televoting was very unfair for Malta. Poor Malta. 🙁

I though the semi final 2 was boring. Lots of ballads were grouped in this one.

Czech Republic should have qualified for the final. They were awesome in every way.
Switzerland put a lot of effort into their staging but I think the song let them down. I liked it but there were better ones.
Ireland, on the other hand, had a great song but they were so lazy with the staging. Why was Molly hiding behind the piano? Ireland killed their own song.

Don’t get why you people say about Malta has a good voice live. I haven’t listened to Malta’s Warrior before but she was incredibly flat throughout the performance. Georgia’s Warrior >>>> Malta’s. Iceland is a combination of bad performance and bad song, it should come last instead of Switzerland. Tbh I’m satisfied with the 2nd Semifinal result. And Montenegro’s song isn’t overrated, seriously. The top 3 Songs are. Russia’s is just rubbish, Sweden’s lost its charm after a couple of listens, and Italy’s is boring. Musically it’s okay but not a really ‘commercial’ song. Hate me as much as you… Read more »

Switzerland should not have finished last. That would have been her undoing and it was because San Marino should’ve finished last. I was thinking that Switzerland was going to be an upset qualifier, but obviously not.

Ireland was ok but that piano blocked out Molly from us and so there wasn’t really much of a connection.

Malta and the Czech Republic should have qualified, especially the latter. How the juries ranked this so low I will never know.

The Czech Republic were the best and really deserved to be in the final. Switzerland was a great performance and probably was a little unlucky that it did not stand out more.
The rest unfortunately, were not good. Iceland and Malta were performed terribly on the night and Ireland was just far too boring. San Marino and Portugal never had a chance in the first place.

@Blah: María and her crew should have never dumped her sidekicks in place of the background vocalists. The sooner it became apparent that she was going it alone on the stage (with the exception of the backgrounders to the side), I knew she was in trouble.

Ireland and Switzerland. I have a soft spot for sentimental songs, and Molly Sterling’s was definitely finals-worthy. I thought Mélanie René’s presentation on stage would deliver the upset qualifier. Unfortunately, the way she and her team presented the song BEFORE the contest (that is, the music video, which I didn’t like, as opposed to the song, which I did) probably killed her chances weeks before she took the stage.

I would say Iceland. I didn’t think her performance was as bad as some people said (I actually liked it a lot!), and the song was pretty good imo.
I also felt really bad for Switzerland :/ Melanie pulled out a great performance, and certainly didn’t deserve to finish dead last behind San Marino.

Czech Republic deserved it the most. I liked Malta’s song before the show, but I just lost all interest in the song during the performance.

Malta and Ireland, definetely.
Maybe San Marino. The song wasn’t good, but they did a great performance.

I would choose Malta and Ireland instead Azerbaijan and Poland.
Azerbaijan was one of my favorite songs before the show. After his performance, I can’t say that anymore.

Btw, Maria Olafs was really nervous, but she didn’t sang out of the tune.

Things I will never ever ever ever understand about Eurovision fans, #27147: Why the hell they like the Maltese “Warrior” so much. Girlfriend doesn’t sing, she squawks, her performance is mechanical, the song is a dirge, and she STOLE CONCHITA’S BACKDROP. Ireland and Czech Republic are the only possible correct answers. Although props to Portugal, who was about 1000% better than I ever expected. (Perhaps I’m biased, since she is a very attractive lass.) TBH, unlike SF1, I think the 10 that qualified were the right ones. (All the love for Albania’s train wreck is “things I will never ever… Read more »

It’s a shame so much rubbish got through (Israel, Poland, Lithuania) yet actual, good, intune songs were left out (Ireland, Malta, Czech Republic). Tbh, even Iceland was more intune than Poland was. I still love Iceland’s song but her live performance was pretty awful, if she nailed it, it could’ve done really well.

I think the results of the eliminated should’ve been:

11. Ireland
12. Czech Republic
13. Iceland
14. Portugal
15. Switzerland
16. Malta (really don’t understamd why so many loves it)
17. San Marino

Semi final 2 was a really tough semi, it really could have been anyone, but there was one or two countries that qualified for the wrong reasons, that really shouldn’t have. I am happy with 7 or 8 of the qualifiers from Semi 2. But I think Poland should not have qualified, it used a poor girls disability for gain votes, and before you all say I am being horrible to disables people, I am not, if we are all equal, then why was pictures of her shown in the arena from when she could walk? TVP were clearly going… Read more »

The Czech Republic, Ireland, and Switzerland all had good songs and gave good performances. Iceland had a good song but it got ruined live. Malta and Portugal weren’t bad either. San Marino was just horrible.

I liked San Marino but I know that style is controversial. But with Malta, there are no excuses for it not qualifying. I expected a Top 10 finish in the final, maybe even Malta’s first win.

Malta’s elimination was a travesty since it was my favorite ( its two years in a row now that my favorite doesn’t qualify). I also wanted to see Ireland and Iceland in the final even if the vocals were dodgy – they were pleasant enough songs. Switzerland definitley did not deserve last – it was much better than the likes of Montenegro (the most overrated song this year), Poland and Cyprus who in my mind did not deserve the final this year. This semi final was always going to be a bloodbath. Only semi final 2 of 2010 was a… Read more »

I had to say Switzerland, the most underrated song of the lot. I thought Melanie had a great performance, the staging was beautiful and her live vocal was very strong, but she unfortunately was the “sacrificial lamb” for mega-favortie Mans and his light show which upset me greatly. She deserved more than last place and 4 points

I love cheese, and “formaggio” is Eurovision’s raison d’être … this year, San Marino gave us cheese on toast! What’s not to love (apart from the fact that Michele had hair made of concrete and hadn’t bothered to dress up, the slacker)? Even now, there is probably some European (or even Australian) primary school teacher listening to Ralph Siegel’s four glorious key changes, and mentally rehearsing her precious little Year 1s to exclaim the explosive opening, “No!” as one candle after another is lit in a circle of pre-pubescent gorgeousness in a bid win over the hearts and wallets of… Read more »

Czech Republic & Malta, and maybe Portugal.
But it was just an injustice that Czech Republic & Malta didn’t made the cut.
Czech Republic – don’t get the jury
Malta – don’t get the televoters
San Marino & Iceland were just both out of tune on stage, and i wasn’t a fan of Molly’s performance. The Swiss entry was forgettable, but it deserved more than only 4 points and it definitely deserved to be higher than San Marino & Iceland.

Okay, unlike semi-final 1 were I thought the right 10 made it to the final, this semi final I think otherwise. I like all seven non-qualifiers, but I don’t think Czech Republic and Iceland were strong enough to get to the final. Personally, I loved San Marino and Portugal and would have loved to see them in the final but I understand it isn’t everyones taste. And that leaves me with the 3 travesties! Ireland, Malta, and Switzerland deserved to qualify. Molly literally left me in tears with her vulnerability, Amber’s song was just amazing, and Switzerland’s staging was one… Read more »

For me it’s Malta, Portugal, and Switzerland.
Iceland was just so off tune, a NQ was okay, San Marino too cheesy, the Czech were very nice and funny persons but their song and especially the staging was quite uninspired. Molly from Ireland had a nice enough song and a great voice, but she seemed just a little unconfortable on the stage, hiding behind the piano (btw, why did they have to show the hideous back-part of the piano in front of the audience??)
