Fresh from his victory at the Opole Song Festival – where he beat Donatan and veteran singer Maryla Rodowicz – Michal Szpak (my pick for wiwivision!) has revealed that he wants to sing for Poland at Eurovision 2016:

“I would like to take part in Eurovision, to go up against other European artists and present the entry which I believe will leave a big emotional mark on the competition.

But who is Michal Szpak I hear you ask? And more importantly, how is he so fab and so glam?

Michal first came to attention on the first series of Polish X Factor in 2011, where he divided public opinion due to his glamorous, androgynous appearance. He ultimately finished as runner-up. Watch him do his thing with Alexandra Burke in the final:

He released his debut album that same year and has been touring ever since. His recent success at the Opole Song Festival came as a bit of a surprise to the singer, who admitted that he was a somewhat “controversial” winner, as not everyone agrees with how he looks and what he represents. In fact, some sort of “unpleasant confrontation” took place directly after the contest, although Michal has remained gracious and refused to elaborate. Instead, he focuses on keeping positive by expressing himself artistically through styling and music. Rise above sister!

Michal’s festival winning song, “Real Hero (Jestes Bohaterem)”, was seen as a good potential entry for this year’s contest (see!), although as you guys know, the honour went to “In the Name of Love” by Monika Kuszynska. Michal admitted that he is a fan of Latvia’s Aminata Savadogo (who isn’t?)  and that her creative performance this year convinced him that he would love to do the same for his country.

Poland has really mixed it up since its return to Eurovision, so why not go for the super creative Michal Szpak for 2016? What do you think, can Michal and his amazing hair claim Poland’s first win?

I think a good ballad would help him be successful in Eurovision, especially if his voice stands out than the instruments (a bit) if possible. His voice has purity and it could help the listeners cling and enjoy to it.

His voice is very good, but if he wants to go to Eurovision, then he needs a stronger entry. This “Real Hero” is a bit mediocre and if it went to ESC this year, it would’ve easily flop.

Hopefully Edyta Gorniak will represent Poland next year, I’m sure she’d just slay the whole competition with her powerful voice. What she really needs is the right song.

I quite like Michal, his voice is great too.

Am I like the only one who hates his wiwivision entry??? He has a great voice though and would certainly end Poland’s bad placings with juries.

I would say that he has woman’s hair, but even a woman would have such horrible hair… Anyways I don’t like him so much, if he is able to send a good song maybe…. I still think Sylwia Grzeszczak should participate for Poland.

Oh it’s a man..
well, I really don’t want an emotional song from Poland again. Just send a pop-folk song with lots of happy colours and everyone is happy.

Not really a fan of that song at all, but he’s clearly got a great voice – wouldn’t mind seeing him with a better song!

Why do you call him a freak? The fact that he has long hair does not make him a freak – many men have long hair. He maybe is feminine but hey – isn’t Eurovision meant to be tolerant and inclusive? And Mario why does him having long hair matters to you? It is like saying that Conchita should have shaved her beard…

Personally, I would love to see him in Eurovision but with very good song – tbh the songs he has released are not really outstanding in my opinion. That being said, he has fantastic voice.

Since when did long hair equal freak? Is it illegal to have long hair? Should we ban women from having long hair?

I was checking the scoring points data in wikipedia and poor Monika was very underrated sadly in the juries both on the SF especially & the final…What a shame..
Her song might was not so good but her performance was really beautiful <3

Well only by the fact that he managed to beat the homohobic satanist Donatan {you can check his wikipedia to see for yourself..} i give him my approval to go to our Vision..
But ok…In more serious note now…Im not convinced by his metal rock punk looks…If he cuts his hair short he will have more chances to persuade me of giving him my blessing to represent Polonia in EuroVision..
