Il Volo — that’s Gianluca, Ignazio, and Piero — are gearing up for their North American tour, which kicks off at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, NY on February 5. Judging from their recent press run they are taking it very seriously. It’s only September but in recent days we’ve spotted them on local TV stations in both Atlanta (hey y’all!) and Los Angeles (like OMG). For full tour dates, click here.

During their recent appearance on PBS SoCal (in L.A.), the group talked about their programme DVD “Il Volo: Live from Pompeii” ($84) and how proud they were to have won Italy’s Sanremo Festival. The host also asked them about Eurovision and Gianluca made it clear that the people mean more to him than the professional jury: “We won the televote so that’s the most important thing,” he says. The host also prods him about his victory in the wiwibloggs Eurovision’s Next Top Male Model contest. Gianluca says singing is more important to him than being cute. Fair enough!

You can watch the interview below.

@ Charles
3 platinums and 40 million views on YouTube.
It would be a good idea to bring up the positive things about your favourite acts. It doesn’t help anyone (least of all you who don’t have reliable figures to support your hate) to try and belittle those that don’t meet your musical taste.
Be a little more classy and more of a gentleman, like the guys from Il Volo, who never spoke ill of anyone.

They have always been far more successful in the USA than else where … they may be very aware they won televote, but they easily forgot no one in Europe bothered to get their single with the same enthusiasm as they bothered to vote for them … all they have left are live concerts in the US and maybe a collab with Barbra Streisand just like Il Divo …

The interview also aired on WQPT, a PBS station based in Moline, Illinois. I was happy that she did mention Eurovision.

They were in the PBS for New York/New Jersey about a month ago.

I marked out when I heard Grande Amore in the program.

Just so youse knows, it’s standard procedure for people with concert programs on PBS to do a “tour” of the larger stations to help them fundraise. The fundraising segments can nearly double the length of the program!

I’m very excited that PBS SoCal is now aware of Eurovision … even if it’s just from Il Volo’s press materials. (Also, 50 countries?)

Everything they say is factual and doesn’t rain on anyone else’s parade. Since their concerts were aired on PBS, it’s good of them to drop by and accomplish two things at the same time: getting people to buy their newly released DVD and also support public broadcasting in the USA which is always struggling to keep its head above water. PBS isn’t funded by a license fee: it relies entirely on public funding to keep it going.
