The Swiss press is reporting that, while in Locarno, Italian trio Il Volo devastated their hotel room, smearing urine and feces on the walls. Il Volo strongly deny the scandalous accusations and have threatened to level a lawsuit for defamation.

Yes, Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble find themselves in the spotlight but for all the wrong reasons. As Ticino News reports, the trio allegedly trashed their rooms at the Garni du Lac hotel over the weekend. The report claims that, after arriving at the hotel “with two companions” on Friday, the tenors called the three-star hotel “sh*tty” and then proceeded to ransack the rooms. After spending the night, they complained about the quality of their accommodation and moved to a five-star hotel in Ascona. To everyone’s surprise, the cleaning team found everything in disarray, urine in a bowl and feces on the walls.

Il Volo denies the allegation. Gianluca Ginoble said via Twitter that the news is not true and that they have sought advice from their legal team.

Meanwhile, the trio’s PR Danilo Ciotti claims that the tenors were allergic to the carpet in the rooms, which was the object of their complaint concerning the accommodation. This, however, does not explain the alleged vandalism. The press officer vehemently denies the accusations as well, saying it was a misunderstanding.

Gianluca tweeted again today: “Mamma mia, the envy of some people!! Ugh…”

While we take a moment to wrap our head around this unexpected scandal, what do y’all make of this? If proven guilty, will this make you change your “Grande Amore” for Il Volo? If not, you can show your support for the guys with the hashtag #iostoconilvolo (I stand with Il Volo).

UPDATE: Hotels back down, Il Volo vindicated.

This is obviously all rubbish. If you ask me, journalists just generally talk crap to get publicity, good or bad and the hotel probably made these allegations hoping to get some money out of it. I never did and still don’t believe this story. You just have to look at these three guys to know that they would never do something like that. You are talking about three beautiful young men who are building there careers, are incredible singers and, who, I might add, are going right to the top. All I can say to these journalists and to the… Read more »

Hard to know what is true & what not true. Only one member of Il Volo was affected by the dust in the carpeting, which could cause vocal problems. The story might have originated with employees, rather than the hotel’s management. Were pictures taken of the “trashed” rooms?Probably not. If some trashing did take place, it probably was minor & involved only one room, one guy. They strike me as being independent. They are not the three musketeers, all for one, one for all. They are skilled performers & businessmen who have formed an alliance. They are interested only in protecting… Read more »

It’s all lies!!! Anyone who knows the young men of Il Volo never believed it for a single second! The hotelier has now denied the story. Why doesn’t WIWIBLOGGS write about *that*?? And, for the record, *one* of the guys is highly allergic to dust…the dust found especially in hotel carpeting. And, apparently there was an abundance of it in that particularly hotel’s carpeting, because he was affected by it. An allergic reaction to dust can be very injurious to the voice of a singer. Since the men of Il Volo actually do sing (and beautifully, I might add)…and not… Read more »

A good way for a media outlet to get attention to itself is to make up a story and then get the victims to deny it.
