The search for Ireland’s debut Junior Eurovision act is finally up and running. The first heat was broadcast on TG4 earlier tonight with David Kennedy advancing to the 8 November grand final.

Over the course of the hour long show, eight talented young singers performed two minutes of their songs before a judging panel made up of Niamh Kavanagh, Brian Kennedy and Stiofán Ó Fearail. David Kennedy and Lisa-Rose McMahon emerged as the panel’s favourites. The jury decided to send David to the final with his song “Fuar” (Cold).

Congratulations David! Do you agree with the result? Does “Fuar” have what it takes to represent Ireland in Sofia? And what do y’all think of TG4’s Eurovision efforts? Should RTÉ be taking notes? Comment below.

I agree with Robin on this, I think the music could be heavier. The song sounds quite dark and the music should match this instead of like a pub corner jazz set.

Ba í an chailín a sheinnim an giotáir (ní cuimhin liom a hanaim) is fearr. Amhrán nua aimseartha ach arís tatníonn na balladaí go mór le mhuintir na hÉirinn…

The girl who played the guitar (can’t remember her name) was the best. Modern song but once again Ireland prefers the ballads…

Ireland has already chose the entry. And David Kennedy didn’t win the grand final.

I have to be honest with this.. I’m not a big fan, I also find it a poor presentation of the wonderful language of Gailege. I usually love the language, but I hate this.

Good choice in my opinion. Very emotional song. Reaction on Twitter is very negative but I thought Lisa Rose’s was very cheap. “Fuar” was the better choice.

Also, I’m happy that TG4 acknowledged vocal capabilities. RTÉ often ignore them. Best of all, there’s no messing about. It’s right to the point.
