Good news: Sanremo 2016 won’t interfere with you Valentine’s Day plans!

On Monday Italian broadcaster RAI confirmed the dates and full schedule of Sanremo — its star-studded, high-intensity, rarely-on-schedule national selection show for Eurovision.

Fans of Italy’s selection won’t be surprised by this year’s format. A total of 18 acts will compete in the “Campioni” division. Nine acts will perform on each of the first two nights, and a combination of public televoting and a press vote will decide who advances to the semi final on the fourth night.

But what of the third night? That’s a special “covers” night where the 18 acts will interpret songs from other artists and compete for a special prize, determined, again, by a combination of televoting and press opinion.

Sanremo 2016 Schedule

Serata 1: February 9 (Tuesday) — Introduction of first nine acts

Serata 2: February 10 (Wednesday) — Introduction of second nine acts

Serata 3: February 11 (Thursday) — Covers night

Serata 4: February 12 (Friday) — Semi -final

Serata 5: February 13 (Saturday) — The final

Since returning to Eurovision in 2011 Italy has landed in the Top 10 every year except 2014, when Emma Marrone finished a disappointing 23rd. Their string of successes has led to impressive ratings, which in turn has led RAI to move the grand final of Eurovision from RAI 2 to its main station RAI 1 in 2016.

When you are on Sanremo live show – sometimes you miss “forward” button…In 2016 really looking forward for Il Volo live tour. It’s so great they will visit many cities in North America too.

Rai invests heavily in the Festival di Sanremo ( in 2015 despite cuts to the crisis have been spent quasi16 million euros has had a collection of almost 22 million Euros ) . The intent of the program is therefore to satisfy the tastes of a wide audience , so in addition to the musical contest , there are famous guests both Italian and international, such as actors , comedians and singers . The result is a medium share for five nights of nearly 50% . During the semi-final of the Eurovision the share was 3.09% and in the final… Read more »

@Robyn Gallagher. Well, the show is thought and produced for ,guess what, an Italian audience. That means it is not supposed to be watched by other people who maybe could not understand this kind of format like the Italians do.

My absolute favorite Italian entrant in recent years was Nina Zilli, She has so much style and just her overall attitude was amazing from all the interviews in Baku. I still follow her and would love to see her back at Sanremo, maybe not this year since she did last, but you never know.
