Last week TRT revealed some not-so-surprising news: Turkey will not participate in Eurovision 2016. Over the last three years, Turkey has openly criticized the presence of juries in the voting system, ostensibly because Turkey struggles more with the jury of music professionals than it does with televoter. Prior to Turkey’s departure from the Euro-sphere, its large diaspora always ensured that votes would come rolling in from country to country, while its jury ranking was less certain.
So, as Turkey sits out another year, we want to know: who is your favorite Turkish act from the contest since 2000? Did maNga’s robot warriors capture your attention? Was Sertab Erener’s belly dancing the highlight of Turkey’s run? Or did Hadise shake her way into your heart? Remind yourself of all the acts and then vote below!
Turkey: Our favourites

Just Hadise.
Never really been a fan of Turkey’s entries tbh.
Sorry for bad English, but here is my opinion: 2000-2002: Sorry, no comment. Not following Eurovision those years 2003: Wow, what a great song. Love the live performance. 2004: Not a big fan of this song, but kinda like it 2005: Well haters, i love this song. Dont know why whole europe extremely hate her and her song 2006: The song just weird but lovely, and i love Sibel and her handsome dancer 2007: Hmm, Okish song 2008: Yeah, love this…among my top 3 for Turkish entries 2009: The song is good, but yes, she cant sing live. My top 3:
1. Sertab Erener
2. maNga
3. Hadise/Can Bonomo (I can’t decide)
Sertab Erener by far – every other Turkish act has been overrated in one way or another.
I don’t understand the hype about Hadise – she didn’t even sing that well during the final yet somehow managed to finish ahead of the UK – something that is unbelievable.
I am happy Turkey won’t be back, because just like Greece, disapora makes voting very annoying, boring and predictable.
Well I don’t think the jury thing is the issue. I mean, there are countries that have been way more harmed than Turkey by doing well in televoting and not getting the love of the juries e.g Greece would’ve been 5th in 2009 (than 7th) , 7th in 2010 (than 8th) , 3rd in 2011 (than 7th), 9th in 2012 (than 17th!), 4th in 2013 (than 6th) and 14th in 2014 (than 20th). But, in my book they are right for the Big 5 system. Anyway, my top Turkish entries: 1. 2008- Deli 2. 2003- Everyway That I Can 3.… Read more »
Turkey almost always sent great songs but Athena’s entry in 2004 was simply the best of them all.
Sertab and Hadise are the only ESC Turkish artists that I listen to even now
as much of a knockout as Prenses and the rest of Hadise’s career has been, Sertab arguably had the better ESC song
mor ve otesi song very special in my opinion
I honestly feel like Turkish entries are highly overrated or overranked obviously due to diaspora voting. Manga’s song was great but not sure it deserved silver; Hadise song was okay but in a highly competitive year and Hadise’s lack of vocal abilities to put it nicely – 4th place was definitely a stretch. I’m not even gonna talk about the joke of 2012 – 7th place? come on.
For me is Hadise, then Sertab, then maNga, then Kenan.
hadise’s goddess… a non-live-singing goddess, however.
anthena, mor ve otesi and manga ftw!
Manga, Athena and hadise!!!!
For me TOP 5 from 2000 to 2012
1. 2003
2. 2001
3. 2006
4. 2004
5. 2010
6. 2012
Worst for me song from 2005, than song from 2002
For me Sertab one of best winner at Eurovision
I really miss Turkey in Eurovision! My favourites are this 3 turkish delights ; Hadise, Sertab and Sibel Tüzün.
Hadise all the way!
I miss Turkey so much. 🙁
I think their winning entry was their worst entry! But it fits very well in that wave of mediocre winners and horrible songs in the 2000s (Estonia in 2001 whose name I can’t even remember, Maria N in 2002, Sertab in 2003, Ruslana in 2004, until Dima Bilan in 2008). The dark years of Eurovision.
Can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic for any of these songs, honestly. However, I do like the entries from Sertab Erener, Athena and Yuksek Sadakat. I want Turkey to return, but with the current attitude and politics I doubt we’ll hear of them for some time. :/
Sertab all the way! and Everyway that i can.
It’s not about the jury voting protests, its all about the government. You should understand that.
Athena and maNga
