Last week Belgian broadcaster VRT introduced its five Eurosong hopefuls, and revealed that they’d be taking part in an intense performance bootcamp leading up to the three Eurosong shows in January. The five have already had their first challenge – each performing a live cover on Belgian radio station MNM.

Tom Frantzis “Stop and Stare”

Tom demonstrates his guitar playing on his stripped-back cover of OneRepublic’s “Stop and Stare”.

Laura Tesoro “What Do You Mean”

Laura transforms Justin Bieber’s hit into a sassy track with funk-soul flavours.

Adil Aarab “Hello”

Adil adds some subtle R&B flourishes to Adele’s massive comeback single.

Amaryllis Uitterlinden “Can’t Feel My Face”

Amaryllis takes The Weeknd’s song to even darker places, adding the dramatic sound of a cello.

Astrid Destuyver – Adorn

Astrid gives a bare bones version of Miguel’s alt R&B song.

The quality of the songs they come up with will be decisive. I like the voices of Astrid Destuyver and Adil Aarab the most, but all five can sing, that’s for sure. Selah Sue? Could be nice. Well, why not try Stromae then? But I think history has proven that doing well in Eurovision doesn’t always has something to do with how succesful you have been before Eurovision.

Tom Dice, Roberto Bellarossa, Loïc Nottet. These 5 artists perfectly follow the line that has been established by them and I think… Read more »

All of them can sing, but the problem is having a good song. Curious what they’ll come up with. Will they write it themselves, or have a songwriter do it for them?

This is certainly promising! Five singers with wonderful voices, all we need now are 5 good songs to go with them and eurosong could be quite the competition this year.

;-(

Why didn’t they go with someone with more experience but a limited rep outside of Belgium and YouTube? Selah Sue and her sound would surely have retained most of Loïc’s 217 points. These five, I don’t know. I’d have to hear the song (and see the music video) they give the winner to be proven wrong. I am not yet impressed.
