After a month of song submissions for Slovenia’s national selection show Evrovizijska Melodija (EMA) 2016, this morning state broadcaster RTVSLO announced the lucky finalists for next month’s final in a press conference in Ljubljana. They are…

EMA 2016 Finalists

Anja Baš
Anja Kotar
D Base
ManuElla
Nuša Derenda
Raiven
REGINA
San Di Ego
Sebastian Lukovnjak
Žan Serchich

That’s right folks, Nuša Derenda and Regina are making their EMA comeback having represented Slovenia in 2001 and 1996 respectively. Nuša’s 7th place finish with “Energy” remains one of the country’s best Eurovision result to date, whilst Regina finished at a lowly 21st with her entry “Dan najlepših sanj”. Slovenians might also be familiar with ManuElla, as she competed on Slovenia’s 2012 national selection show Misija Evrovizija.

EMA 2016 Jury Panel

Alenka Godec – Singer
Gaber Radojevic – Music producer
Jernej Vene – Editor of radio station Val 202
Aleksander Radic – Slovenian Head of Delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest

The songs will be revealed next month, which is likely to be announced days before the competition starts on 27 February. Just like last year, EMA 2016 will be split into two rounds. All the finalists will perform their songs on the night before the jury panel select the two songs that will advance to the superfinal. The superfinalists will perform their songs one more time before the televoting public decide the winner.

Last year’s winners Maraaya started off as one of the pre-contest favourites, before they eventually finished a respectable 14th in the final at Vienna with their entry “Here For You”. RTVSLO will also be hoping to build on their success of last year’s Junior Eurovision representative Lina Kuduzovic. Both representatives were today’s guests with a performance of their entries.

What do you think of the acts? Can Slovenia make it a hat-trick of semi-final qualifications?

I think Matjaz Vlasic wili write song for Nusa. He wrote song from Slovenia in 1998, her song Energy in 2001 , 2006, 2011

It’s great to see Nusa coming back. I hope she has amazing song again, maybe even better than Energy!

Slovenia deserved to be at least 11th, they were much better than Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The first place in running order killed their chances! Damn!

I care more about the songwriters than the actual singers. Really hoping Maraaya makes a comeback as a songwriter.

LOL! I too 1st thought Regina from Bosnia & Herz.

Anywho, most likely Maraaya or just Raay will submit a song…they’ve been involved with EMA for now a few contests.

I’m not sure, but I think 7th is Slovenia’s best placing. I’m expecting a lot from Nusa and Slovenia then!
