The Eurovision 2016 season received a much need kick-start this week when Ireland broke with tradition by internally selecting Nicky Byrne and his song “Sunlight”. This brought the current tally of confirmed acts and songs to two, the other being Albania’s Eneda Tarifa with Përrallë” (Fairytale). She earned the right to sing at Eurovision after winning Festivali i Këngës 54 in late December. Stockholm may still be a long way off, but it only takes two to tango. And what a fierce dance it’s been!

We asked y’all to vote for your favourite Eurovision act so far, and in just four days an impressive 1,312 votes were cast. Eneda put in a valiant effort, picking up 550 votes. But the Balkan blonde was no match for Ireland’s finest. Nicky turned on the heat and scooped up 762 votes in the process.

Ireland: Nicky Byrne “Sunlight”

Albania: Eneda Tarifa “Përrallë” (Fairytale)

YOUR EUROVISION FAVOURITES on 17 January (2 Acts)

  1. Ireland: Nicky Byrne “Sunlight” 58.08% (762 votes)
  2. Albania: Eneda Tarifa “Përrallë” (Fairytale) 41.92% (550 votes)

Total Votes: 1,312

Thankfully, this isn’t a battle to the death. Eneda lives to fight another day. However, she’ll face an additional adversary. Belgium chooses its Eurovision 2016 act later tonight. Afterwards, we’ll relaunch the poll to include Loïc Nottet’s successor.

What do you think of the current standings? Does Ireland deserve its number one placing? And perhaps more importantly, can they hold onto the much coveted top spot next time? Will Belgium arrive with a bang and snatch poll position? Or could Albania sneak past both of them and claim the crown? Let us know below.

To early to tell but Irish entry definetly has a few of the ingredients to do well in Eurovision
Good song
Easy on the eye
Experienced singer
Euro pop tune

Think it will do well but not a winner ..

Let’s face it, Albania’s isn’t memorable enough to qualify and thus Ireland is the better song.

It’s still #TeamPeralle for me although maybe not after today (hoping that the Belgian contenders revamped their songs)
I predict Belgium will overtake Ireland soon no matter what the outcome of Eurosong is

People need to stop hating on Ireland do none of u realise that Albanians song was sung live and Ireland’s is a lyric video that was probably edited in a awful studio and to those who think Ireland’s is cheesy it’s not like heroes rise like a Phoenix and only teardrops weren’t cheesy so please stop judging u could be ruining the acts self esteem

Problem is a few likely voting based on looks and NOT music.

Please have mercy …
Thank God there are 41 upcoming entries hopefully to overshadow this Irish disaster of a singer. He was the Victoria Beckham of Westlife but unlike her he still insists on what he’s no good at.

Great results. I never cared about Westlife, but I have to admit I’ve become quite obsessed with Nicky’s entry these days. Nice song, sexy voice and a extremely gorgeous singer.

Non of these songs will be in the top5 I am afraid.. but I like Nickys song from a music perspective.. but I am quite sure it will not be for ESC.

Don’t think ireland will be anywhere near the top come may, Albania has grown on me but I’m still looking lower right side of the scoreboard at best as the song is now.
