Happy belated birthday, Dolly Parton! The country music star turned 70 yesterday (not that we’d ever think she looks her age) and a whole host of celebrities offered their tributes to her via social media. Of course, that might be enough for the likes of Kristin Chenoweth and Billy Ray Cyrus. But Eurovision winner Emmelie de Forest went one better than that on Danish TV last night.

We have no idea whether Emmelie and Dolly have ever met, but we’d like to think that Emmelie is doing her best to be Mrs. Parton’s new BFF. The Eurovision 2013 winner took to the stage on the Danish talkshow Aftenshowet to cover Dolly’s classic hit “Jolene”.

It’s nice to hear Emmelie put a spin on another song, after her acoustic cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit“. Of course, part of us is sad to see that Emmelie didn’t go all the way in her Parton tribute. We’re talking the full big blonde hair, bold and glitzy outfit and of course a whole lot of…ahem, “assets” on show.

Still, it’s a worthy celebration of Dolly’s life so far. It’s got us wondering if other ESC stars should do more birthday celebration covers. Cher turns 70 this year and I defy anyone to say they wouldn’t want to see Lordi tackling “Believe”. Epic Sax Guy giving us a spin on a Kenny G sax solo for the latter’s 60th birthday? The possibilities are endless!

If you don’t mind I prefer the Common Linnets version, currently a hit in the German speaking countries. Ilse DeLange’s voice fits this song perfectly.

@Jacob
That would be great, since she hasn’t put out anything for a while (no hints on IG either). But at least she’s been writing and was a co-composer of Anja Nissen’s entry

I absolutely love Emmelie’s cover, she has an amazing voice. But I hope she soon will come with some new music of her own.
