After falling apart in the early 1980s, ABBA surprised fans by making their first public appearance together in many years at the opening of Björn Ulvaeus’ new ABBA-themed Greek taverna, Mamma Mia! The Party in Stockholm. And that’s got fans wondering if the fab four will make another reunion in May.

Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad turned out to support their former bandmate Björn and his new entertainment venture. The four all arrived individually and were only photographed with their spouses on the red carpet. But once inside, the 1974 Eurovision winners made a brief appearance on stage to wild cheers from the audience.

The unexpected reunion has sparked rumours that the four may again reunite on stage at the Eurovision grand final in May, 42 years after they won Eurovision with “Waterloo”.

ABBA have previously avoided all offers of reunion shows, reportedly turning down US$1 billion for a series of 100 concerts 15 years ago.

At the Mamma Mia! opening, when asked about the chances of a reunion, Benny gave a firm no, saying “It is good as it is, that people remember us as we were, that energetic pop group.”

But that’s not to say they haven’t considered it. Former SVT boss Eva Hamilton told Expressen that in recent years ABBA had twice been very close to agreeing on a reunion. Could it be third time lucky in May? We can but dream!

If ABBA should ever reunite, it should be in the studio, not on stage.

Christer Björkman walked the red carpet with them – is that a sign of anything? I hope so!

Can’t they at least do something like the Spice Girls did in the Olympics in 2012? one-off as the complete Fab Five?

They don’t have to do a typical reunion tour or anything, but I think just one performance during the GF interval would be amazing and would probably make international attention!
