Malta’s Ira Losco did her best, but she just couldn’t shake Ireland’s Nicky Byrne off the top of our weekly poll. The Eurovision returnee briefly stormed to the lead when voting first opened, however, support for the “Sunlight” singer was simply too strong. Of the 5,790 votes received since Sunday 24 January, a massive 3,083 votes went to the ex-Westlife star — that’s a whopping 53.25% of all votes cast! His previous best was 762 votes on the week ending 17 January.

Nicky Byrne “Sunlight”

Ira Losco’s “Chameleon” debuts in second place, picking up an impressive 1,394 votes or 24.08% of all votes cast. This would have been enough for her to top both previous polls. But the ante’s been upped and she’ll need to do better if she’s to win Eurovision.

Ira Losco “Chameleon”

Belgium’s Laura Tesoro and “What’s The Pressure” hold strong with 469 votes. That’s only slightly down on the 482 votes she received last time.

Laura Tesoro “What’s The Pressure”

Eneda Tarifa “Përrallë” (Fairytale)

The increased competition sees Albania’s Eneda Tarifa slip from third to fourth. However, week-on-week, support for “Përrallë” (Fairytale) has actually risen — 457 votes versus 404 last week.

Ivan “Help You Fly”

Belarus’ IVAN rounds out the poll. Our second newcomer seems to have gotten lost in the melee. “How To Fly” managed to secure just 387 votes — the lowest tally so far this season.

Luckily for most, we’re all about second chances. The slate will be wiped clean when we relaunch the poll on Tuesday. The quintet will be joined by the winner of Spain’s Objetivo Eurovisión, which takes place tonight.

What do you think of the current standings? Does Ireland deserve to be at number one for a third week? And can the Emerald Isle maintain the momentum once Spain joins the party? Who’s your Eurovision favourite? Let us know below.

Malta , Azerbaijan , Sweden in last few years get many supports from juries. Sweden are most overrated by juries from 2012 till now. Malta have strong influcence on juries, maybe because they invite on their national final , head of delegation for Eurovision from other european countries.

John as I told you pretty much the national selection emphasizes on juries’ love haha. Plus I don’t think a small country has money to make pressure on the jury lol. Remember they don’t get votes from televoting as they don’t have neighbors and you know how most countries vote. I am still sad Malta did not make it in 2015 and they qualified in 2012 and 2014 🙁

MMs there is something suspicious about the Maltese songs getting a ton of jury votes when it doesn’t really deserve them. From 2004-2009 they qualified twice (Angel would most likely have qualified too). From 2010-2015 they qualified 3 times, 2 of which was entirely because of the jury. The other times, 2010, 2011 and 2015 they were ranked 7th, 6th and 5th. Malta gets a suspicious amount of jury support.

It’s alaways Ireland leading the poll, each year. Currently I have no favorite.

Kind of annoying to see all the hatred for Ireland just because it is topping the poll. Guaranteed if this was Sweden or Russia or Serbia everyone would love it, but just because it’s Ireland it is getting slack. Yes, it won’t win Eurovision 2016, it’s not that good, but it’s definitely not the worst but out of the 5 songs already chosen, it is the best. Other countries (ahem Sweden and it’s Nordic neighbours) have entered similar songs with much praise. Shows the favouritism that ESC fans have towards certain countries. Btw Malta is seriously overrated this year and… Read more »

Pretty obvious that Sunlight didn’t get all those votes fairly… it’s an alright song, quite catchy, it doesn’t really show much though. I’m sure that if Ireland was to come first in a fair poll, then the percentage of votes would be close to second’s votes. 53% of votes… don’t really understand?

John, I agree with you. And as I said Malta’s song can be heaps better! But please don’t call the help of the jury suspicious lol I watch Malta’s selection and the song is selected mainly by juries, we can all remember what happened to Jessika when Firelight won, it was a jury friendly song and unfortunately they tend to go for those types of songs. So annoying that ppl don’t get that right but either way televoters in Eurovision tend to vote for their neighbors, so I think it is safe of PBS to do so at least they… Read more »

MMs just because a country has competed for so many years and sends a bad song once, doesn’t mean it cant send a bad song. Malta is one of the most successful countries at ESC and they can get good results (even with suspicious help from the juries). Chameleon is just a very bland song and all I can remember is her singing Invincible a couple of times. Perralle has a good chorus and it sticks in my mind as it sounds like a movie theme.

I really can’t get the Malta overrated and I don’t like Ira Losco posts. I think it is a very well produced pop song. I think there is huge room for improvement but the song is already great. Lol at people saying Malta is overrated when Malta never won the contest (though they don’t always send the best song). Remember all of you criticizing appreciate the fact that they have tried for so many years, are eurovision fanatics and do a national selection despite the fact that it is a very small island with its limitations. I personally don’t like… Read more »

I meant Ireland 2016 was unexplainable.

John

Ireland doing well in 2014 and 2015 was understandable, both were good songs (it’s a shame 2014 was so poorly performed, but it had a great studio version). 2015 is unexplainable unless you consider people voting for their own country/bought votes like Georgia last year. It’s crappy pop and will probably go out at the semis (unless the standard doesn’t get better). Of the ones selected so far, Albania is the only one that could qualify. Belgium would get kicked out by the juries but I don’t see the televoters going for it unless it has a really good performance.… Read more »

maslo, Wiwibloggs has also a huge fanbase in Georgia, that’s what I have noticed, so when Georgias song is selected, we will have a big fight with Ireland and Georgia fighting about the first place.
