The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2016 final takes place later today, with ten acts battling it out for the chance to represent Denmark at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm. Among them is Jessica, who will compete with her reggae song “Break It Good”. We caught up with Jessica earlier this week.

Jessica (DMGP 2016): Interview

Jessica wants to introduce more reggae music to Denmark and the rest of Europe through the Caribbean-inspired “Break It Good”. As a singer, she is looking to further her music career and showcase her style of music before her country. Denmark is greeting her style of music positively and she thinks the rest of the world would too. At the time, Jessica was tight-lipped about her staging, but you can now see a snippet of her dress rehearsal performance.

The 24-year-old also talks about her Eurovision favourites — she’s a big fan of “Euphoria” and “Molitva”, and even learned to sing the latter despite not understanding the Serbian lyrics. Being a part of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix has always been a dream of hers and it is finally coming true. Before performing, Jessica likes to be alone or with the people she trusts most. She’s ready to bring that positive energy to her performance.

Jessica is friends with Mario of Muri & Mario, having grown up in the same town and considers the Danish-Italian duo to be her biggest competition, along with DMGP veteran Simone.

What’s new about it? Reggae never does well at Eurovision.
