It’s cold in Finland, but Finnish broadcaster YLE is turning up the heat with this year’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) — its national selection for Eurovision 2016. Six acts will compete in the third semi final on February 20, but only three can advance to the grand final a week later. Among them are the Barbe-Q-Barbies, who will rock out with “Let Me Out”; the Gusani Brothers with the humorously named dance number “Poom Poom”; Lieminen with the retro electronic number “Pehmeiden Arvojen Vaalijat”; Pietarin Spektaakkeli with the 50s-themed “Liian Kuuma”; Sandhja with the very soulful dance track “Sing It Away”; and Tuuli Okkonen with her electro ballad “Don’t Wake Me Up”.

Wow, I like all the songs. The two standouts for me are Barbe-Q-Barbies and Tuuli – they have their thing down the best. Sandhja brings passionate vocals and interesting instrumentals, but they’re not quite enough to completely make up for the generic lyrics. Gusani Brothers’ song is catchy and I warmed up to it as it went along, but again, generic lyrics, with some pronunciation issues – seems like a less inspiring version of Mohombi. I think Tuuli & BarbeQBarbies will both make it which I’m happy about but I think it will come down to Gusani Bros & Sandhja for the last spot.
I think the results are gonna be really close this semifinal, all 6 songs are pretty equal in terms of quality. Leminen is my favourite, followed by Tuuli and Sandahja. Poom Poom is my absolute guilty pleasure, I don’t expect it to make the final, but I’d be happy if it did.
After seeing Annica and Kimmo fail the way they did yesterday, I’m rooting for Mikael to win. Saara would be my reluctant second, because the “here we’re loving” bits still make me cringe.

Sandhja’s voice is fantastic, her song is catchy and energetic.
Third heat isn’t as hard as the second and my clear favorite must be Tuuli with Don’t Wake Me Up. Also, I like PAV – catchy Finnish entry.

My favorite of the last heat (bearing in mind I haven’t yet watched the performances) was Rafaela so I don’t think my favorite of this heat will make it either (Gusani Brothers – also my favorite of the whole UMK) although I really hope they do.
But Sandhja and Tulli should definitely go through.

Tuuli is definitely my favourite! She is my favourite to win this semi and to actually win it all. I hope she can pull it off live.
The rest is not my style, only Sandhja or the Gusani brothers could be qualifiers in my opinion.

This semi would be easy 😉 1. Don’t wake me up (This will quallify) 2. Let me out (So will they) 3. Sing it away (not 100% sure) 4. Poom Poom (Could enter top 3) 5. Pehmeiden arvojen vaalijat (Terrible) 6. Liian kuuma (Terrible 2.0) the top 3 will be close to each other, but the others will get far behind. Tuuli’s song would do well at eurovision, i normally hate rock songs and everything in that style, but let me out is amazing!
