Lidia Isac has won tonight’s O melodie pentru Europa 2016 final in Moldova with her song “Falling Stars”. Despite being marked down by the jury, where she ranked third, Lidia won the televote, which pushed her to the top of the scoreboard. She will now go on to represent Moldova at Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm.

Lidia Isac “Falling Stars”

Lidia was the fan favourite both before and after she won her semi-final. “Falling Stars” was written by some of the team behind Polina Gagarina’s “A Million Voices” and was widely tipped to win the selection.

It’s fourth time lucky for Lidia. The singer has participated in the selection every year since 2013, and 2016 was her second consecutive attempt as a solo act. She previously also competed as part of the girl band Glam Girls.

This is a really good song, one of my favourites song for the moment. This year it’s going to be hard to decide which song you’ll will wote on.

If it were 15-20 years ago then this song might do quite well, but this is 2016. In my opinion, there were some other more unusual Moldovan entries in the final that could have been sent because of this. One other entry even had agressive rap interchanged with meditative-style singing – really jaw-dropping stuff! There was even a modern theatre-opera entry and some trad-based gothic rock! It’s not as if Moldova didn’t have choices when it came to be modern or original. But what they have chosen is decidedly stuck in the past at the moment. (However, i can easily… Read more »

Eduard is probably a vocal genius compared to Lidia.
She makes me miss him, cos the song is alright but It’s all just very amateurish.

Average song. I feel like I’m in 2011 watching/listening to this.
And she reaches the highest notes hardly. Actually she doesn’t reaches.

what a horrible typical pop/ edm song, this genre mostly I heard from cat music Romania and theirs nothing special in it to compete eurovision but well it will sold a lot of playtime on fm radios just not meant for the contest. Her backup singers got more power than her voice, Moldova won’t make it to final knowing theirs some country like Finland and Ireland they almost got same genre.

I like the song, and she will probably sound better in Eurovision. Moldova always pulls it together vocally.

Hi-NRG Eurodance with quite a messy production. I don;t think she is a bad singer but she needs to be more lively.

So great that she won. Moldova is now one of my big favourites. I think she should add some dancers who can also provide some of the backing vocals.

Best voice – Valeria Pasa. Also best looking for sure.
What I liked – Doinita Gherman and DoReDoS.
Lidia is OK – nothing special though…

The typical euro-pop entry we find every year. Usually it’s from Romania, now their neighbour has the torch.
Solid, well-produced and a bit boring. Noting special or memorable. Could qualify but could tank in the semi-final too.

My favorite won! But I think she should add more backingvocals (who can sing the high notes) and some dancers (no band).

Meh… With their selection I guess the best won, but I think we can all agree Moldova will again stay in the semi… What a shame, they had such a great record until 2013!

P.S. Such a cheap looking show! It was hard to watch, like they were children staging musical numbers in grandma’s livingroom
