This Thursday, Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst will take to the stage of the Sydney Opera House for a special concert, where she will also reveal Australia’s Eurovision 2016 representative. But the Queen of Austria has already arrived Down Under and is making major waves.

This is not the first time Conchita has visited Australia — she was there as recently as November when she appeared in Adelaide’s Feast gay and lesbian festival and told the locals that Australia’s participation in Eurovision is necessary.

Miss Wurst will have the honour of announcing Australia’s representative herself at her concert on Thursday. As you can see in these photos, Conchi is busy rehearsing ahead of her big show.

Amid rehearsals, Conchita made time to speak to The Sydney Morning Herald, expressing her disbelief that gay marriage is not yet legal in a country that “looks like a gay heaven”.

She also discusses some of the hostility towards her Eurovision victory: “I don’t understand why people spend so much time thinking about me if they don’t like what I do.” Miss Wurst also spoke about other issues, including the refugee crisis.

Conchita announces Guy Sebastian as a guest performer

The Conchita: From Vienna With Love concert is an official Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras event and Conchita will perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as well as several Australian stars, including Australian drag artist Trevor Ashley, cabaret performer Paul Capsis and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Courtney Act.

Conchita also confirmed on 2Day FM Radio that Australia’s 2015 representative Guy Sebastian will also perform on Thursday night — there will be no shortage of Eurovision stars there, y’all!

What do you think of Conchita performing at one of the world’s most iconic performance venues? Are you excited for Australia’s big announcement? Let us know in the comments below.

@Charles: Dude, it’s not like I’m a huge Conchita fan or anything. I’m trying to argue that you’re focusing only on her showman’s aspect when there is a very musical aspect to it, complete with the orchestration, and she put forth a song that made that possible. Regarding Melodifestivalen, I have nothing against Sweden as a country or Sweden’s continued success. No need to characterize me as this caricature of an ESC fan that you seem to see who supports Sweden winning but regrets that Il Volo didn’t win, as though these were necessarily the same people who had these… Read more »

@Alex: “a Eurovision star is performing with an orchestra and not the pre-recorded instrumentals and backup vocals that take away half the artistry from Melodifestivalen” … I am pretty sure I follow the same Eurovision as you do but if there is anyone playing live music in it let me know because as far as I remember that got killed back in 1999 until now … but if targeting MF so negatively as so many other people have been doing here against almost anything Swedish regarding Eurovision makes your day … All I’m saying is that Conchita überloved today, long… Read more »

@Charles: She’s putting on a concert, with an orchestra, not a fashion show… if you’re going to talk about focusing on the music, why is the nose ring so relevant? We should be celebrating the fact that a Eurovision star is performing with an orchestra and not the pre-recorded instrumentals and backup vocals that take away half the artistry from Melodifestivalen.

@Eli: Conrad would not be a bad choice. His feature on Kygo’s “Firestone” introduced him to audiences worldwide and Firestone’s a damn good song too.

I’m kinda wondering when will everybody hate on and ignore Conchita the same way a lot of people seem to feel about Dana International right now… I mean like everything in fashion, one day you’re on top, next day nobody cares about you … Who’s the next big outrageous LGBT thing to win this and makes us all distracted from the musical purpose of Eurovision and wanting all the focus to be on its character? Someone who will make Conchita be long gone and forgotten? I wonder …

It´s really a big deal to perform – and not only to perform but entertaining an own evening with friends & the legendary Sydney Symphony Orchestra at Sydney Opera house.
