We are nearing the end of our Wiwi Jury for the Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 songs. Before we get there though, we take a look at the penultimate act, Taraka. The little known folk band are entering with their song, “In the Rain”. You can also still vote in our Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 poll too, but be quick. The voter will close soon, so make sure that you can have your say on Taraka and all of the competing entries.

Taraka – “In the Rain”

“In the Rain” reviews

Luis: I want to like this, but I’m hopelessly bored by it. The slow cadence of its beats, the na na nas and that lazy accordion are killing this song. I wanted it to end from the first minute and I normally like this style between bar background music and street musicians.

Score: 2/10

David: You can try to disguise it with some indie rock flavor, but polka music is polka music. And while all polka music is awful, this is awful even by polka standards.

Score: 1.5/10

Jason: really don’t like this song. It’s not just the dodgy pronunciation or the super annoying na na nas. It’s everything about it. I really hope that Poland makes the right decision on March 5 by not selecting “In the Rain” as its Eurovision entry.

Score: 1.5/10

Antranig: I like the music in the background here but their vocals are annoying throughout the majority of the song. The na na, na na hook is annoying rather than catchy and Romania’s Andra Olteanu does that much better. It’s a shame, because there is a lot of unfulfilled potential with this type of music.

Score: 2/10

taraka 2Chris: I get that I’m probably not the target audience for this kind of song. I kind of like that there’s a kind of old-school, French vaudeville feel to the music. That’s about all I can say positively, because the actual “singing” here is dreadful. There’s absolutely no passion, no energy — just nothing. If they sound bored, how is that going to make anyone listening to the song feel?

Score: 3.5/10

Marek: Taraka was the only finalist I hadn’t heard of before — it was weird. To be honest, when I heard the song, I was not that impressed. The song isn’t that catchy, the beat sounds pretty melancholic and the vocalist’s voice has an odd accent. I don’t know if it’s Polish or not — but it is not cool. The song isn’t very memorable and the lyrics are not that fancy. It’s just an average song. I’m just wondering if Napoli would be better.

Score: 4/10

Robyn: “In the Rain” is giving me the same laid-back street band feel as Elaïza’s “Is it Right”, with the same lazy beat and accordion. It’s ok, but like “Is It Right”, it wouldn’t be strong enough to really connect with a broad Eurovision audience. Poland is likely going to qualify no matter what they send, but a song like this wouldn’t bring a great grand-final result.

Score: 5.5/10

Deban: “In the Rain” has no mileage. It is dated, gimmicky and far too regional to make an impact beyond a provincial tavern. Lacking in any form of musical sophistication, or composition. Millions of people shouldn’t be subjected to this lame effort! Please let it drown at Selectia Nationala.

Score: 1.5/10

I think it’s too harsh too. It’s a song about a refugee crisis so it’s got that Lubeh sound.
