Jüri Pootsmann won Estonia’s national final Eesti Laul with his song “Play”, co-written by Estonia’s 2015 representative Stig Rästa. With its 1960s soul style, the song is dripping with seductive attitude, with Jüri telling his love interest that it’s time to “just hit play”.
The song opens with “It’s getting late and be that as it may/I turn to you”, as Jüri draws us into his world.
The lyrics are a work of seduction – there’s chemistry there between Jüri and his love interest, but they need to take the next step. “Just hit play/’Cause that’s the only way/To find out if it’s love/That we’re fallin’, we’re fallin’ into”.
Estonia previously won Eurovision in 2001 and they have their sights set on another win. Can Jüri’s sedutive soul-pop styles win over Europe again? We will find out in May!
