Gabriela Guncikova might be singing an emotional ballad at Eurovision, but her roots are in rock. She’s showed off that side in a recent YouTube video where she joins YouTuber Anthony Vincent in singing 65 songs in a journey through rock ‘n’ roll.
Anthony Vincent is known for his videos where he sings popular songs in dozens of different styles (here’s his take on Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” in 20 styles.)
He breaks from his usual video style and drafts in two other singers to help out, famed vocal coach Ken Tamplin and his star student Gabriela Guncikova. The three of them sing, wail and snarl their way through 60 years of rock ‘n’ roll. And between the three of them, there’s a lot of hair.
While the medley covers everything from the Beatles to Black Sabbath, Gabriela has a few moments where she really shines. She has the opportunity to show off her rich rock voice on Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart”, she goes glam rock on Aerosmith’s “Walk this Way” and she delivers attitude on Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”, among others.
While Gabriela is singing the ballad “I Stand” at Eurovision, she made a name for herself as a rock chick on Czech-Slovak Idol in 2011. She performed songs such as Pink’s “U + Ur Hand”, Europe’s “The Final Countdown” and Heart’s “Alone”.
We’ll be seeing a different side of Gabriela in Stockholm, but as the 65 songs video shows, Gabriela is a multitalented performer.
mawnck: It’s OK you don’t believe it. Check her live performences. I can give you a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOoMjtCywDU#t=2m27s

Czech Republic is going to regret so badly not sending her with a rock song. “I Stand” is mediocre compared to her full vocal ability.

Tell it to those who chose the song. We did not. :((

SMH that you guys think those are live vocals.
See that thing she’s standing in? That would be a recording studio. And she’s getting a LOT of computerized help. As are the other two schmoes.
Most of her vocals are multi-tracked. You DO hear that, right? Right? Because if you don’t, you need to stop commenting on music.
I’m not saying she *can’t* sing. Just that this video proves nothing.
Where in the blue hell is that awesomeness in her Eurovision entry?
I now feel like she’s totally been miscast for her song.
Her voice is incredible. My favorite female singer of this year. I wish she could sing a rock song this year. I like “I Stand”, but it’s not what I was expecting from her.
But I really want that she gets a place in the Final. The best czech entry ever.
Awesome collaboration, they all did a fantastic job.
I also believe that Gabriela still can make the finals – that voice will defnitely stand out, even between Russia and Cyprus.
Wow!!! Bad position in the running order or not, she MUST be in the final!! What a flawless voice!! 😮
Gabriela will just slay on stage
rooting for her, Ira and Samra in semi final 1
rooting for Kaliopi, Poli and Laura in semi final 2
Amazing.
I honestly think that after Russia in the semi, with a good stage show the simplicity of I Stand and her vocals will really bring the Czech Republic through to the final.
Possibly the best female vocalist in the competition, and there’s some real quality this year.
Dami is good, Nina is good, Jamala is amazing… but she smashed this out of the park. I’d still give the edge to Jamala but for rock, Gabriela has got it going on!
finally this got reported lol
I really like her vocals! <3 I hope she'll qualify in the semi ;w;)
Amazing. Go Gabriela and Czech Republic!<333
This is 1981 all over again…
“The Stars on 65 keep on turning in your mind,
like ‘That’ll be the day’,
remember ‘She loves you yeah yeah yeah’,
you still ‘don’t stop believing’ that it’s ‘more than a feeling’.”
An awesome headbanging medley with Gabriela showing her fierce rocker chick power. There’s no way she’s not in the final – period!
Wow! With those live vocals, Russia might not be such a problem in the semis!
Love her voice! Go Gabriela Gun!
