The countdown for Stockholm continues and this year’s Eurovision stars are keeping busy, performing and meeting up with fans all over Europe. But Iceland’s Greta Salóme is taking it a step further, launching a cover contest for fans.
YouTube is already full of music lovers performing covers of their favourite Eurovision songs, but Greta Salóme is raising the stakes.
She has officially kicked off a cover contest on Facebook, where hopeful singers can perform “Hear Them Calling” in a version of their own choice, with the best version winning a travel prize to Iceland.
The winning song will be decided by a 50/50 jury and social media likes. Greta’s judging panel is Icelandic Eurovision heaven. Euroband’s Friðrik Ómar and the silver queen Yohanna will join Greta in deciding who has the best cover and the best voice.
And the prizes are worth it. WOW-air will fly the winner and a friend to Iceland, where they will stay at the Hilton Nordica hotel in downtown Reykjavík for two nights.
The only thing to do is to record your version of “Hear Them Calling”, upload the video on Youtube, and then submit your entry on the official competition page. Entries close on May 11. That trip to Iceland could be yours for the taking, along with your talents catching the eyes of the world!

What an awful thread of comments. “Undo my sad” springs to mind. Delete, delete, delete…
So, is anyone actually recording a cover of “Hear Them Calling” for a free trip to Iceland?
@MikeG
She is hosting the competition for people who want to submit covers. Why do you have to post that?
@Robyn Gallagher
Am I welcome to post here? I’m asking, because some people say I annoy them and I’m really sad about that!
@Pollaski
thank you, and i’ll take Robyn’s advice 🙂 🙂
@Nicky91
Dude… I wasn’t saying that about you. I was poking fun at the guy who did say all those things and then added “but no offense” at the end like that somehow made it not a personal attack. You’re alright in my book, and Robyn’s a good woman for giving you a nice nod. Just… don’t be so sensitive to everything. Chillax. Have fun. Take Robyn’s advice. You’ll be alright.
@light star well i know that you can be a little annoyed with me, i can only apologize to you and hope i won’t annoy you in the future here @Pollaski well that’s your opinion, but you got my apologies for annoying you, and i only want to be friendly on this blog, it wasn’t my intention to spam or annoy anyone, just sharing my opinion on here 🙂 @Robyn Gallagher thank you, and i have apologised to the ones i’ve annoyed, i just want to be friendly on this blog and share how i think about this year’s song… Read more »
“Nicky, you’re a terrible poster who spams everything and if wiwibloggs were sane they would censor half your crap. But please don’t get offended”
Well, its a damn good thing you added that last bit. You might have hurt his feelings otherwise.
@Agustine
Don’t you have anything else to do? You criticize every single person! You must be really bad!
@MMs
How many times do you comment a blog here? Usually once, only. How many times do reply to other comments? Once or twice max..
Nicky91, however, sits in front of her/his computer and waits like a spider for a fly for the next comment, and responds immediately to almost all of them. The whole comment section is filled with this persons’ opinion. I don’t think this is a behaviour of a sane person. I am not going to read the comments anymore because I don’t care his/her and georgekirkas’s opinions about every comment.
Guys leave Nicky91. Everyone is entitled to his opinion. Always be nice 😀
dangit. i wish participant but i’m always short of breath and can’t hold a long note. oh well.
I might do a bilingual cover and hopefully Greta will hear it and use a bilingual version for Stockholm.
@georgekirkas
doesn’t matter 🙂
@Nicky91
Sorry, I didn’t know so I wrote ”him/her”,”he/she” and ”his/her” in my previous comment!
@Agustine
You are absolutely wrong, darling! First of all, how do you know that Nicky91 is a girl? Also, can you please ignore us and do your business? Nicky91 respects other people’s opinion, he/she is not like you or Homer! Finally, you are not the right person to tell me if I should ask for his/her e-mail adress, OK? I am going to decide that myself! If you know, there is democracy so I can communicate with him/her in whichever way I would like to! Got it?
@georgekirkas
thank you for your top 10, and i’m a guy, Agustine thinks i’m a girl haha
@Nicky91
Here are my qualifiers for the first Semi-Final in order of personal taste:
1.Croatia(9,5/10)
2.Iceland(9/10)
3.Armenia(8,5/10)
4.Moldova(8,5/10)
5.Azerbaijan(8/10)
6.Bosnia and Herzegovina(8/10)
7.Cyprus(8/10)
8.Russia(8/10)
9.Malta(7,5/10)
10.Austria(7,5/10)
Non-qualifiers:
11.Estonia(7/10)
12.Finland(7/10)
13.Czech Republic(6,5/10)
14.The Netherlands(6/10)
15.Hungary(6/10)
16.Montenegro(4/10)
17.Greece(2,5/10)
18.San Marino(1,5/10)
It was really hard for me to choose my qualifiers, because this Semi-Final is full of great songs! I would like to see Estonia and Finland in the Grand Final, but unfortunately there are only 10 spots!
@georgekirkas
This person doesn’t care our opinion. This person only wants to tell us his/her opinion in an aggressive way.
Other people have already asked her to stop this (e.g. light star), but she absolutely doesn’t care.
Ask for her e-mail address and you can tell your opinion if she wants to know that, but not everyone interested.
Nicky91 Now I want to read other people’s comments.
@georgekirkas
yeah sure 🙂
I don’t understand what’s the use to cover this and that? So many of them do different covers…That’s not gonna work. What’s the point? Really don’t get it.
@Nicky91
You’re welcome! Would you like to know about my qualifiers of the first Semi-Final?
That’s it.Wiwibloggs have clearly shown that they like some countries more than others.Bulgaria had also a cover contest but they didn’t write anything about it whereas Iceland or Ukraine which sent some really bad songs are always the topic.I don’t understand it.
@georgekirkas
thank you for defending me 🙂
@Agustine
You are being way too harsh right now! He is just a very sociable person and he wants to learn about our opinions! YOU are the one who annoys me!
@Agustine
can’t you please give me some advice, because i really like this blog and i respect everyone’s opinion 🙂
i apologize for annoying you, please give me advice how i can stop annoying you
@Nicky91
I don’t care your feelings. Leave us alone!!!!!!!!!!
@Agustine
it’s not my intention, it’s just my second year on this blog, please forgive me
you are making me cry
@Nicky91
I agree with Agustine, you are getting on my nerves too.
@Nicky91
Everyone is enthusiastic here and everyone has an opinion about every comment, but no one behaves like you. Your behaviour is very annoying and drives people away.
Write a blog yourself where you can tell your opinion to everyone about ESC and can have a chat. But do not take over other people’s blog.
@Agustine
no, i’m not a member of the wiwibloggs team, otherwise i would be embarrassed by the wiwi juries with their mixed reviews lol
just a very dedicated eurovision fan 🙂 🙂
@William Lee Adams
Is Nicky91 is one of your team members?
If not, could you ask this person to run his/her own Eurovision web site if he/she wants to chat with everyone who writes a comment?
Thanks!
Wonderful move! What a pity that I can’t sing lol.
@oli
who are your 10 qualifiers from semi final 1?
I love her and her song!!!
@Ben Rafter
well she might qualify, at least she’s singing better live than Samra for Azerbaijan or Zoe for Austria
@MikeG
She has only been at ESC once. And with some other chap. They qualified and were 20th out of 42. She will qualify this year. Pretty much everyone says so.
A fantastic idea!
I wish I was more musically-inclined myself.
@MikeG, “everytime” – she only represented Iceland once, not by herself, and qualified to the Finals. Sure, ended up quite low, but do I need to remind you of a certain 2015 trainwreck? Iceland should be glad they sent something better.
@georgekirkas
who is your top 10 qualifiers from semi final 1?
well Greta is a good singer, however i kinda miss Jonsi, they were better together with their song Never Forget 🙁
Who cares!? She’s not even gonna qualify. Everytime she represents Iceland it’s a disaster. I really dislike her songs, dramatic and cheap.
@georgekirkas
Sorry for the mistake, it’s ”they”, not ”thay”!
Greta, you slay girl! What a generous action! Whoever travells to Iceland is really lucky, it’s a very beautiful country! I hope thay will qualify and do very well in the Grand Final, they deserve it indeed!
