After an absence of more than ten years, The Powerpuff Girls are returning to television screens across the globe. And those watching in Italy are in for a treat, as Eurovision 2016 star Francesca Michielin is singing the official theme song for the Italian version. We shouldn’t be surprised, because just like Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, Francesca is made up of sugar and spice and everything nice. And she definitely possesses the all important “Chemical X”.

“No Degree Of Separation” this is not. Just like the show’s three superhero protagonists, the theme is packed full of energy and sass. The pop-punk number is instantly catchy and will undoubtedly help snare a whole new generation of fans for the much loved Cartoon Network series. The minute and a half long preview clip shows footage of Francesca performing in the recording studio interspersed with images from the show. There’s lots of animated hearts and stars, with dashes of pink, blue and green — the show’s signature colours.

The life of a superhero may be glamorous, but Francesca’s main focus right now is Eurovision. The Sanremo runner-up performed at both Eurovision in Concert and the London Eurovision Party in recent weeks. At the latter, she told our William that she’s a serious cinema buff, so perhaps we can expect more theme songs from her in the years ahead.

Francesca isn’t the only Eurovision personality appearing in cartoons. Melodifestivalen veteran Ace Wilder features on the trailer for the upcoming Angry Birds movie, while Dima Bilan lent his vocals to the Russian dub of Disney’s Frozen.

Oh, thank god. Living severed heads are WAY more natural than dead ones. >_<

It’s a live head, not a dead one. Agreed that the photo isn’t a great look though. A bit middle ages.

Very cool. 🙂 She’ll probably be remembered for that now more than anything else! Hahaha. Thanks Wiwibloggs for including this, and well done Francesca. x
