Mark your calendars, put in your dry cleaning, and get ready to look glam! Sweden’s SVT has revealed that the official Opening Ceremony for Eurovision 2016 will take place on May 8 from 19:00 CET.

In previous years the red carpet and the official Opening Ceremony have been held in the same venue: Acts would walk the red carpet, which led straight into the event. Not this year. For the first time ever the event will be split into two locations. Let wiwibloggs guide to you where you need to be when the stars come out…

Eurovision red carpet

The evening starts at the red carpet, which will take place at Euroclub, located at the wharf of Skeppbron, which is right next to the Swedish Royal Palace.

It boasts a beautiful view of the waterfront and the city of Stockholm.

Along the 94-meter long red carpet accredited media and fans will have the chance to chat with and interview the artists from the 42 competing countries. But even if you’re not accredited you can still see the artists and admire all their bling.

Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede, the hosts of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, will oversee the festivities, alongside Contest Producer Christer Björkman and Show Producer Sven Stojanovic.

Thereafter the 43 acts and their delegation head to Stockholm City Hall and the Blue Hall, where the official opening ceremony will take place. This is the same venue where the Nobel Prize dinner is held.

You may recognise it from our Melodifestivalen 2016 coverage, as this is the same room where the Welcome Party took place.

Accredited media and fans are not allowed to attend the opening ceremony, but don’t worry. The opening ceremony after party will be held at Euroclub, and the artists will be encouraged to attend after they leave City Hall. The afterparty is open to all accredited fans and media, so get ready to par-tay!

During the Opening Ceremony, Stockholm’s mayor Karin Wanngård, Eurovision Executive Supervisor Jan Ola Sand and executive producer Martin Österdahl will greet the contestants as they perform and mingle with the other acts over drinks and canapes.

Okay, hang on, let me get this straight.

The whole idea of the “red carpet” is to capture stars as they arrive at the venue, and work their way inside to the event. Instead, they’re going to arrive, get out of the car, walk a short distance, get back into their car, and then go to the actual venue.

Anyone else think this is an ungodly stupid way of doing things?

Whatever. I usually find these red carpet arrangements quite boring. An hour of just seeing the delegations walking from one end of a carpet to another.

Hi Wiwibloggs! The first thing I wanted to say is to thank you for being so wonderful and reporting us so much information. Secondly, you’ll probably know but Barei has been interviewed by La Vanguardia, and there are some questions related to her favourites and why doesn’t she like the Russian song. Thank you and hope you write an article!

It’s 42, as the EBU cares about money more than countries coming together.

Because you not longer write about Barei? Now all I read here is about Sergey, Amir, Francesca and Nina. Barei has released a new album today, she has had many interviews, she was the only one that talk about what happened to Hovi in the airport of Rusia, she sang J’ai Cherche in Spanish and much more. However I haven’t read anything about all of this things, the favoritism of this web is very obvious …
