Eurovision 2016 Favourites Michal Szpak

Eurovision 2016 is almost upon us. Rehearsals begin in less than a week, at which point we’ll finally get to see each country’s staging plans. As always there’ll be majestic masterpieces and boiling hot messes. But for now, we’re judging each act solely on their official audio and promotional performances. Since 22 March, we’ve been asking y’all to vote for your favourite act in Eurovision 2016. And thousands of you have answered our call, with a whooping 46,501 votes already cast. The poll remains open until 13 May, but we’re going to take a sneaky peek at how the figures are currently stacking up.

Michal Szpak “Color of Your Life”

Michal Szpak’s road to Eurovision has been filled with drama. His victory over Margaret in the Polish final sent eurofans into meltdown and sparked petition-makers into action. Emotions have mellowed since then, with “Color Of Your Life” proving to be one of the favourites on the preview party circuit. The Pole occupies pole position in our poll with 4,161 votes or 8.95% of all votes cast so far. However, he is only third in our semi-final two poll.

Barei “Say Yay!”

When she’s not been teaching us how to dance, Barei has been busy performing “Say Yay!” at virtually every stop along the pre-party calendar. It’s clearly helping her with fans, and she’s polled 3,800 votes or 8.17% of all votes cast so far. She’s currently sitting in second place on our automatic qualifiers poll.

Nicky Byrne “Sunlight”

Ireland haven’t made the Eurovision grand final since 2013, but Nicky Byrne is hoping to break the curse in Stockholm. The former Westlife star has undertaken an intensive promotional campaign, performing “Sunlight” at events in Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The publicity seems to be paying dividends as he occupies third spot in our poll, clocking up 2,986 votes or 6.42% of all votes cast so far. He currently tops our semi-final two poll.

Nina Kraljic “Lighthouse”

Typically, Croatia are considered to be one of the weaker Balkan nations. But not this year. Nina Kraljic won The Voice and now she’s one of your favourites to win Eurovision 2016. “Lighthouse” went down a treat in both Amsterdam and London, and y’all clearly love it. It’s amassed 2,957 votes so far or 6.36% of all votes cast. Could the famous glass microphone be joining the Porin (not porn!) Award on her mantle? Nina is currently first in our semi-final one poll.

Amir “J’ai cherché”

France’s Amir rounds out our top five. The “J’ai cherché” singer has benefited hugely from his European promotional tour, narrowing on the oddstable to the point that he is almost neck-and-neck with Russia. He’s also leading the OGAE fan poll. Amir has amassed 2,408 votes or 5.18% of all votes cast so far. He’s currently winning our automatic qualifiers poll.

Malta, Russia, Australia, Bulgaria and Armenia complete our top ten. At the other end of the poll, Montenegro’s Highway sit in last place. “The Real Thing” has only received a measly 75 votes thus far.

Of course, all this is subject to change. The poll remains open until 13 May. So if you haven’t done so already, vote now!

The real top starts with France, those above are rigged. Maybe all of them (except Ireland) could be reintegrated in the top 15, but that’s it.

@ Justice4Margaret
I wish you had seen the computer&studio product called Margaret not being able to sing live. THAT was cringeworthy. And it’s not Michal’s fault that Margaret lost, she can say “Thank you very much” only to herself. Michal’s lisp? If it really exists, I prefer his lisp and his poor English hidden behind his stunning vocals.

Anyway this poll is totally rigged and unrealistic. Croatia and France are fan favorites, but Spain, Poland and Ireland? It’s clear that massive amounts of people from those countries voted for themsleves.

Anyway, what’s up with Bulgaria climbing on the betting odds? They’re my favorites so I’m obviously happy about it but why this sudden leap?

Too bad Poland can’t vote for themselves! I honestly don’t see Europe appreciating Szpak’s cringeworthy lisp and accent enough to waste their money on him. I wish he’d have sung in Polish… or I wish Poland had sent someone else.

This poll has no value whatsoever. 😀

I don’t give credibility to this, as there’s no voting restriction of any kind. This is only good to discover the most active fanbases LOL

You guys from other countries not placed high, need to go to the “hype gym” and get “stronger”. 😉

200 million potential voters in front of 3-4K votes…mmmh yeah.

I truly hope that it is NOT a political contest. I’m gonna vote for anyone from any country who will impress me the most during the LIVE contest in Stockholm. And I wouldn’t even care what country he/she is from. Let the best song and the artist performing it win. It’s fair that I can’t vote for my country. 🙂

Darren

Sorry but I completely agree with @Monique, Poland is such a beautiful country I have been there before it is rich in culture, history and charm. The perception that Poland is a poor, backward place in Eastern Europe is completely wrong.
If Poland were to ever host Eurovision, they would be able to stage quite a huge show and I imagine places like Warsaw or Kraków would be great host cities. Please abandon the stereotypes, it’s not only Sweden or another Scandinavian country that can host a successful ESC.

@ Monique I have a question
it is contest of song or political ? well 1. Poland: Michal Szpak “Color of Your Life” 8.95% (4,161 votes)
Spain: Barei “Say Yay!” 8.17% (3,800 votes) for all these they are unhappy this result why do not you voted ? Polish song is very good and the voice artist unearthly what not to write he has talent big talent remember this is not a political contest only contest of song danke thx

@ David Who As you wrote – yes, you are wrong, totally wrong. Why do you – “Western” people – think that Poland may have financial difficulties organising Eurovision? You have such stereotypes in your heads that I don’t know whether I should cry or laugh. You know nothing about Poland. That is why many Europeans who came to us to Euro matches in 2012 had to pick up their jaws off the floor because they didn’t see a poor country with poor people as they had imagined Poland. We are not the “third world” of Europe, we don’t live… Read more »

The hilarious irony to anyone who follows American politics is that the Gang Of Eight and Donald Trump are pretty much opposing points of view on the immigration measure.

John Christian’s simply insane.

I really like Poland’s entry but it’s no winner. Spain is a great upbeat dance song that is growing on me but once again, I think it will be left behind. Ireland will do well to qualify.

2. Russia
3. Hungary
4. Iceland
5. Cyprus

I apologise to everyone if I have brought up a divisive subject. Actually I didn’t think it would be divisive on a blog that (in my view) is clearly aimed at LGBT fans of Eurovision. Perhaps someone at Wiwibloggs could clarify that? @Kuba L: Thanks for alleviating my concerns, that’s appreciated; and indeed Euro 2012 was 80% state-funded (I just checked). About the poll result and after all the music reviews, I would respectfully suggest that Ireland should have been lower in the list. Apart from that, I can see why also the other songs are where they are. Realistically… Read more »

@georgekirkas good, you’ll only give yourself an aneurysm. Opinions are like butt holes, we all have one and most on the Internet are full of sh*t, you can’t cure stupid or ignorant. They know full well that Eurovision has a massive LGBTQ following and that’s the community that has kept the contest alive. They know full well that a majority of fans are LGBTQ. No amount of rational talk will make them any more tolerant. Also there seems to be a lot of self loathing and people who are just repressing their own sexuality. Feel sorry for them, don’t engage… Read more »

Poland was one of the organizers of Euro 2012 if you do not remember so about money I would not worry. Lack of tolerance is a stereotype. This is not a problem that at this point you need to worry. I’m from Poland and I really support Micha? but I don’t think that we have chance to win eurovision, just look at the past Polish competition. And I think that most of Europe people prefer Margaret song

Again I say this is highly unrealistic. Poland might have a great voice but it’s about the song and entertainment. And the song is not good at all. It will struggle to qualify, there are much better songs that deserve to qualify. Ireland has a good chance of qualifying and could qualify but won’t be anywhere near top 5. Spanairds always hype up their own entry, and Nina fans are hyping her too. Sweden has a bigger chance to win than any of these entries, to be frank. It’s the year of the dark horse and that’s the biggest horse… Read more »

I would love Ireland to actually qualify for the final, but to get 3rd place in the overall standings? I don’t think so! Pretty sure France and Russia (unfortunately) have that sewn up. If there is going to be a shock winner/Dark horse this year, it’s going to be Latvia, Bulgaria, Malta or Sweden. I just want Ireland to qualify, they can place where ever after that. My Top 10: (needed to use the Mr Gerbear app to find my 8,9 and 10 spots) 1. France 2. Bulgaria 3. Iceland 4. Italy 5. Sweden 6. Latvia 7. Malta 8. Ireland… Read more »

Well, usually Wiwibloggs poll has nothing to do with what happens in Eurovision. It is nothing to consider, it’s just the opinion of their readers (many of them being subjective and voting with their own country just based on that fact). However, this year I would really go for Michal, he is my prediction to win the contest. However, let’s be honest, Ireland is a most probably non-qualifier, Spain is way too overrated, they will feel another dissapointment after last year’s hopes, I don’t see Bulgaria reaching a top 10 placing and I’m pretty sure that Hungary and Cyprus will… Read more »
