Kaliopi from FYR Macedonia has just completed the second rehearsal of her song “Dona” at Eurovision 2016. The production of the Macedonian entry has improved hugely since her first rehearsal, including cleaner camera transitions, new lighting and graphics choices and her official costume.
The start of the performance starts a lot darker now, until the first chorus when purple toned spotlights are bought in. Subtle LED graphics are introduced before a burst of orange graphics fill the stage – a stark contrast to the picture frame visuals we saw in the first rehearsal.
The camera transitions for this entry are slick. A lot of the choices are very similar to Kaliopi’s performance at Eurovision 2012 – slower panning during the verses and faster cuts during the chorus.
Kaliopi has also revealed her official costume. It’s a floor length black dress with white detailing underneath. A plunging neckline revealing a large portion of her décolletage also adds femininity to the dress.
The performance has improved a lot, however the general thoughts amongst the press centre is that FYR Macedonia will remain a borderline qualifier in the second semi final.

Really bad song, awful stagibg bad voice according to my criteria and she didn’t make the screaming note successfully!!! AWFUL RESULT AND COMPLETELY NON-QUALIFIER.. IN MY TOP SHE IS 42/42..AND IN BER FINAL OF COURSE 18/18..FOR ANOTHER YEAR, SKOPJE YOU WILL RETURN EARLY IN YOUR HOME.. HAHAHA.. Bb
She’s better than the song. Experienced enough to pull it through.
Not sure about the moving spots, both overhead and floor. Background graphics fit the song mood, which is good. The drummer on stage isn’t needed. Nice ending. This is on the bubble for qualifying.

What are you supposed to be more concerned with when you stage a ballad … staging or voice?
Can you imagine dancing holograms of Kaliopi in the background or laying on a glitter box like Dami ?
It’s simple …. Throw some lights, follow the rhythm of the song with the lights and the colors and sing your ass off …… It would be even more stupid to have her mountain climbing on stage with such song.
It’s simple and everything we all expected.
The song just has nothing to it yet they have staged it as if they have an amazing song on their hands that does not need anything visual added to it.
Not even Kaliopi can save this. Macedonian staging strikes again (see 2015).
