With hours to go until the second Semi-Final, it’s time to glam up and get your donuts ready. The eighteen participating countries already performed in the jury final last night and will now compete in the live broadcast for the public vote. To help us figure out the potential winner and 10 qualifiers, we’re taking one last look at the Semi-Final 2 odds.

The race to win Semi-Final 2 has blown out in Ukraine’s favour in recent days. Despite plenty of debate about the political nature of her song, Ukraine’s Jamala remains the bookies’ pick to win the Semi-Final, with odds as low as 1/2 to win. Jamala wowed Team Wiwi during the rehearsals and looks set to take the Semi-Final 2 crown.

But victory might not be straightforward for Jamala. Australia’s Dami Im is in hot pursuit and with odds as low as 11/4, bookmakers believe that the diva from Down Under could come out on top. Only 0.04 points separate Jamala and Dami on the Wiwi Jury and we expect this showdown to go down to the wire.

Bulgaria’s Poli Genova has seen her odds to win Eurovision shorten and she now sits at third favourite to win Semi-Final 2 as well. With odds of 8/1 at multiple agencies, the bookies believe that Bulgaria could be Jamala’s and Dami’s biggest threat. Poli had the highest Wiwi Jury score of all Semi-Final 2 songs and will be looking to ride her increasing momentum to victory.

At the other end, Switzerland’s Rykka, Slovenia’s ManuElla, FYR Macedonia’s Kaliopi and Albania’s Eneda Tarifa are considered least likely to win Semi-Final 2.

Do you agree with the bookies? Who will win Semi-Final 2 and which countries do you think will qualify for the Grand Final?

My vote goes to Ukraine. Talented singer, great song, deep lyrics. Jamala sang about the story of her own family and that is more unique and meaningful to me than a number of “you love me, I love someone else lalala” type of songs.

I am really interested to see who will pass and who will win. I would like to know whose performance is going to blow me out the most. I like both Ukraine and Australia, but neither has the whole package so far for me. Ukrainian song is very original and touching, but maybe too provocative and divisive. On the other part of the spectrum is Australia who has a nice ballad, but not much original or spectacular here expect people being pro or anti Australia, which is again, divisive. While I wouldn’t mind either as a winner, I would definitely… Read more »

My televotes will go to Latvia, Ukraine and Bulgaria. It is hilarious to see the anti-Ukrainian hysteria constantly propogated by “Paul” and other Russian trolls on this site. No rest for the wicked 😉

It’s just politics and anti-russian hysteria, nothing more. The song is awful, the vocal is hideous, the staging is nothing special. Big wrong for Ukraine this year.

I don’t know how people are in love with this song of Ukraine. In my opinion this is one of the worst entries of Ukraine. Very boring and offering nothing special. Although there is a message in it, there are many others songs which are better than this!

Jamala is half Armenian from her mother’s side. I live in Ukraine, I know. She is good!!

@EugeneESCUK – Ukraine’s staging “is the best staging I have ever seen in the ESC and so original.”.

Let me just LOL as far and as loud as I can.

Really? LOL again.

Move on from your dreams now. There are stagings of songs here that are better than Ukraine FOR SURE, but yet you find her original. Saw her staging, what’s new in that? She’s all alone on stage, playing with the graphics. Newsflash – 10 of the other countries have the same, more or less. Even Lithuania!!! Wake up now.

Eugene,
I’m not saying it because I hate Australia or wishing her to flop.
something in her stage performance tells me that people won’t perceive her as serious about her song and therefore can skip this entry in their voting (she does not look like she’s putting any efforts or connect to audience, give her bottle of water and pack of crackers and that will be what she needed to chill on her box).
it’s not statistical, it’s observation based on people’s psy aspects, on their behavior in certain situations.

I don’t think Latvia / norway will qualify.
Belgium will qualify if you like it or not and will get very high points this semi final because it’s the only song like it.
I don’t know if Ukraine will win this semi final because the song isn’t radio friendly at all and juries really give points to that.

@Gal – I was just referring to my mistake during writing, when I accidentally wrote Israel instead of Iceland and Wiwibloggs doesn’t allow editing your posts.

As for Israel, as I wrote below, I really hope Hovi makes it through. I didn’t really like the first version, but the second one is really good. Also, I believe he has a good chance of making it, despite the bad running order.

As an Irish man I would love to see Ireland in the final, however sadly, I’m not expecting that to happen. All I can do is hope.
My predicted qualifiers are:
1. Ukraine
2. Australia
3. Bulgaria
4. Latvia
5. Serbia
6. Israel
7. Poland
8. Norway
9. Belarus (ugh)
10. Fight between Denmark, Lithuania and Ireland, with probably Lithuania taking the final spot due to having many neighbours, the song itself is pretty bad though.

@Colin
If Israel will be eliminated its will be again ( like years before) for political/homophobic/antisemitic reasons only… because hovi’s song is great .. and deserve to be in the final.. but its not new to the Israelis.
that why most of Israelis dont care about the eurovision so much…

One more peculiarity from this year’s finals is that it might be trouble for Scandinavia. Israel was shockingly eliminated and Finland too (although that one didn’t really come as a shock, it was dreadful). Norway is currently a borderline according to the odds and Denmark even lower. This might be the first time is ESC ever (correct me if I’m wrong), that we have only one Scandinavian song in the finals and that one just HAD to be there, cause it’s a host. One thing is almost for sure: The next ESC won’t be in Scandinavia. Pity, cause I think… Read more »

Semi final 1 was harder and that’s why I think that in semi 2 the performance itself may be even bigger factor than in the first one. The best vocals and most gripping performances shall pass, even if the song is not ‘fan-favorite’. Semi 1 also proved that running order means squat if you don’t hold the attention. That said, here is my prediction, along with few comments: LATVIA – Never was my favorite and seams repetitive. The starting position is also hard. But, considering the fan-favorite status and originality compared to all other entries of the night, I think… Read more »

PhysalisFranchetti

Who’s going to qualify? You might focus on the song, but this year, those new rule changes (backed up by the jury marking scheme) mean that the overall outcome can be dominated by the televote. For this to happen, a song has to appeal to televoters in every country. This could mean the older vote (there is a population bulge in every country in Europe for those born in the 60s), or it could mean members of the LGBTI community. It can even mean music genres that are less frequently heard at Eurovision, such as country.

Australia to Win SF 2 & Win Final. Why you may ask?? Cause Eurovision is a “Song” contest & Dami will up the ante for the next 2 performances, up until now she’s been in cruise control while experimenting with rehearsals, with the occasion & Dami feeding off the crowd , she’s going to shatter the “Globe Arena” with the biggest thunderstorms applause

Given that the songs in this semi are less hyped overall, there won’t be any major shocks, likely because they are less than ten favourites here, so most people can’t be upset with the results unlike SF1
