Fresh from his triumphant sixth place in Stockholm, Amir was given a hero’s welcome with a performance of “J’ai cherché” at the opening show of UEFA EURO 2016. The concert was held on Champs de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower, with an estimated crowd of 80,000 fans.

The concert — Grand Show d’ouverture de l’UEFA Euro 2016 — featured some of the brightest new stars of French pop, including Kendji Girac, Louane Emera, Christophe Maé, Florent Pagny, Soprano, and Slimane, all coming together to kick off the European football tournament in style.

But for Eurovision fans, the highlight was Amir’s performance of his ESC entry, “J’ai cherché”. The positivity of the song was well received by the crowd, a perfect addition to the show.

Amir’s invitation to perform at the concert is testament to France’s effort in Eurovision 2016 and the good result it brought. Sadly, we doubt Twin Twin or Lisa Angell would have received a similar invitation in their years.

Later Amir — who placed third on The Voice: la plus belle voix in 2014 — joined the latest winner of the series, Slimane, for a discotastic duet of “I Will Survive”, accompanied by dancing girls adorned with feathers in the tricoleur. C’est si français! The song was a throwback to 1998, when it was the theme tune of the French team who won the FIFA World Cup that year, also hosted in France.

And we can’t help wonder if Amir had a word to Slimane about the benefits of participating in Eurovision…

The evening was rounded off by a mini concert by superstar producer David Guetta, who performed his theme song for UEFA EURO 2016, “This One’s For You”, with guest vocals by Zara Larsson. Amir didn’t miss the opportunity to pose with the French star earlier in the day.

When you are great and so talented you don’t need to win Eurovision … your talent is huge enough to do things like these … and gain the appreciation and love from the public. And that is what every single artist needs to focus on after Eurovision … Sergey wins awards … but Amir sings for the whole world to see 🙂

Brilliant song entry and a well deserved Top 10 finish. France should be PROUD of Amir’s recent Eurovision achievement. Its been a long winding road of song entries & a drought of douwe points for the last couple of years. I hope that France will continue to improve & possibly win again one day!

Amor and Poli Genova were among the best things of Eurovision 2016, apart from the beautiful host city of Stockholm though.

It’s funny to see that he still uses the same moves, the same choregraphy even though he’s not on the Stockholm stage anymore. And I have to say, it gives me Eurovision flashbacks when I see the crowd wave european flags like that.

Amir was incredible yesterday, and yes that was the highlight of the whole show for me (he could have carried that entire duet with Slimane on his own since his vocal was a lot stronger). And the host of the show revealed that Amir’s album just went gold in France!

Just goes to show what the combination of the right song and artist can do for a country at Eurovision. Good luck to all the teams in Euro 2016, and of course much continued success for Amir!

im sure only 10% of those who listened realized he flubbed the last line lol. Congrats to performing on a stage 10x the size of eurovision tho! He deserves it.
