She won Eurovision 2005 with the dance-pop song “You’re My Number One.” He won the Eurovision 2016 televote with his infectious dance number “You Are The Only One.”

And on Tuesday Greek-Swedish singer Helena Paparizou and Russian heartthrob Sergey Lazarev came together to steal the show at the MAD VMAs in Athens, performing Sergey’s Eurovision number to rapturous applause.

Thirty-four-year-old Helena nailed the pop princess look, slipping into a black playsuit with plunging neckline and a glittering translucent cape.

She elongated her well-oiled legs in a pair of sky-high stilettos adding height to her gorgeous and slender frame, while Sergey kept it simple in an all-black number that showed off his taut body.

The performance began with Sergey standing centre stage in front of a mass of people covered by a large plastic bag.

But amid all those bodies the Eurovision 2016 singer still knew who his lady was, as Helena stood to his right looking absolutely fabulous.

While Sergey handled the song’s opening, Helena took the first chorus and second verse, running her perfectly manicured hands down his gym-honed chest.

Their apparent physical chemistry extended to the vocals.

Although they didn’t make too much of an effort to harmonise, the addition of a feminine voice to the verses and chorus did add a lovely new dimension.

Helena really brought it home toward the end, belting it out “Survivor” style after the bridge.

She was clearly thrilled with how things went, writing on Instagram: “Thank you @sergeylazarev for this amazing duet on stage!!” She punctuated her comments with two heart emojis and the hashtag #youretheonlyone.

I feel embarassed everytime reading statements like yours. It’s probaply at the very least unethical to use words like “rubbish” and other words of this kind even if you dislike the artist or the song or the country or all at once.
Sergey is a big artist with amazing voice and fabulous charm whether you like it or not.
Good choice, Aminata!

And some bad news for you:

If you meant my comments about William being so eloquent, then I am impressed and I loved how he expressed himself.

Well done. William is a sack of ideas and words. He makes this blog so interesting to follow.

WiWi staff, you all are really gorgeous. It is a pleasure to read your articles even if I am not interested in the contest itself.

Guys, to be clear I think that she is a big star. I know that Russia seems to be a big market, but it is not as huge as it seems. The number of its population is not as big as the united EU market. Besides, not all ex-USSR countries listen to Russian pop music as it used to be. So, the prospects of entering these markets sounds not realistic for me. Moreover, she composed an excellent entry for Latvia this year. She is a ready star and she can enter the Russian market with reaching out good PR manager… Read more »

Willian’s language used for this article shows how he loses his mind when he sees Lazarev somewhere… A new terminology invested into brains of thousands of readers of this blog. You taught them the word “slay”, and now you’re extending the vocabulary. Well done, mate!

Yes, you are quite right! And Lazarev is not lazy!)) lol
His LIVE singing is often confused with a playback(because it`s so ideal)
(sorry, I`m not sure I wrote correctly!) 🙂

@ERN
“Pop artists seemingly are lazy, and don’t want to actually sing live”

It is a? oddity to read exactly this phrase in a topic related to Sergey Lazarev. He was the first in Russia who started fighting this conventional wisdom and he would be very offended after reading it. Sergey never uses playback in his show and frequently refuses to take part in mixed concerts if he is made to do it.

Sergey repeatedly spoke in interview that he against use of a “playback”.
And he NEVER use playback on his concerts! Therefore, tell all your complaints to organizers of this show!

@George — “All the performances are playback due to bad acoustics of the arena and lack of budget for sound equipment. See, this is Greece, what can they do?”

It’s not because it’s Greece. All performances are playback, everywhere. The MTV awards performances all use playback. The New Year’s Eve celebrations in NYC all use playback. Pop artists seemingly are lazy, and don’t want to actually sing live.

Well those are amateur, single camera shot videos, so the performance seems quite underwhelming, which does not depict what I experienced on the stadium. The televised performance will be broadcast on July 17th, which is too late for me. And neither Helena nor Sergey are to blame for the playback. All the performances are playback due to bad acoustics of the arena and lack of budget for sound equipment. See, this is Greece, what can they do? @ Charles Do you EVER get tired of being so mean, close minded and obssesive with some artists ? Since when a singer… Read more »

I remember Helena’s win in 2005 and I was so curious to watch this duo…
Disappointment. I’m sorry to say it but Sergey sounds much better singing alone.

@Charles
Cannot help agreeing with you. Probably the thing is that he initially didn’t stage his ESC entrance himself and since then he has to do something that is not very characteristic of him. This is not the case when he has the same freedom as on his own concerts.

Why is he still doing the same body choreography he did in Stockholm? So robotic, so overdramatic, so fake … so … arghhh … well this time around there was no damn wall trying to fool anybody of the average outdated quality of this song. And like Carlos Paião sang in 1981 … “smile to everybody if you make a mistake so that no one notices … in playback” LOL Helena tries to hard to be a soprano … sweetheart, you’re not .. work on those contralto vocals and be proud of them.
