mirela

She’s a true Spanish diva, and one who competed to represent Spain at Eurovision in three consecutive contests between 2007 and 2009.

Now, after stepping away from the Eurovision fandom for several years, Mirela is crawling out of the shadows and into the light, having told Spanish Eurovision site VivaEurovision that she is hungrier than ever to represent Spain on the international stage.

If you were a Eurovision fan prior to 2010, then you’ll likely remember her, as she was the centre of many a fan wank during the late 00s. And before that she narrowly missed out on representing Spain at Junior Eurovision 2004, losing to María Isabel.

Her results were varied, but she always made an impression.

When she was only 17, she became ‘the queen of the night, the queen of hearts’ at Misión Eurovisión 2007, Spain’s national selection. She finished second with “La reina de la noche”.

However, the following year she failed to make it to the finals with “Stronger”, and one year later, she finished fourth with her power ballad “Nada es comparable a ti”.

She decided to step away from the Eurovision bubble following her third (failed) attempt. But she honed her TV talent skills on The Voice of Spain in 2012, making it all the way to the battle round.

She then threw herself into the Madrid production of  The Lion King and most recently recorded “Soy como soy”, the official song of Mr. Gay Pride Spain 2016.

After two disappointing finishes at Eurovision, Spanish fans want change in their Eurovision leadership…and their results. Do you think Mirela could help them climb the table? Share your thoughts below!

@Iberian

Why? She has a great voice and remember, she finished in the top 10 in 2014, which is a very good result (especially for your country).

Sadly, eurofans in my home country are obsessed with Ruth Lorenzo, they want her to represent Spain again. Awful idea. We have so many other great singers who deserve a chance, why not Mirela or a guy. Can’t stand Ruth.

Spain needs a male singer. They should send someone like Alvaro Soler or Pablo Alboran or Pablo Lopez

‘La reina de la noche’ reminds me of Spain in 2002…and not in a good way.
