The live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 has been nominated for the prestigious Rose d’Or award. SVT’s Eurovision Song Contest 2016 is up against the BBC’s Adele at BBC and German crime film Mordkomission Berlin.

The Rose d’Or, which is organised by the EBU’s Eurovision network, is an annual international competition honouring the best in television.

While the event is organised by the Eurovision network, the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t a shoo-in for a nomination. The song contest has only won once before in 2012, when Germany’s ARD won the Rose d’Or in the Live Event Show category for its production of the 2011 show.

This year SVT’s presentation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 has been nominated in the Entertainment category, putting it up against the BBC’s acclaimed Adele at BBC show and the crime thriller television film Mordkomission Berlin, from Germany. We know that Adele is a Eurovision fan, but is her diva power enough to beat naked Måns on a hoverboard?

Show scriptwriter and producer Edward af Sillén excitedly tweeted the news:

The awards will be announced and presented at the Rose d’Or Award ceremony, held at the Axica conference centre in Berlin on Tuesday 13 September.

Rose d’Or – Entertainment nominees

  • Adele at BBC – BBC – (United Kingdom)
  • Mordkomission Berlin – Wiedemann & Comp; Berg Television Gmbh & Comp; Co. KG (Germany)
  • Eurovision Song Contest 2016 – SVT – (Sweden)

In my opinion Stockholm 2016 has to be one of the best Eurovisions ever. The only other one of that high standard was Düsseldorf which leaves me thinking ‘great show rubbish song wins’

Adele will win because everyone likes giving her awards. I’m surprised they haven’t devised a Nobel category for her.

@Avstriya Does it hurt somewhere, lol? Btw…Are you the one who used to be called Österrisch (or something like that)? It would make sence.

In order to take part at Rose d’or competition, the public broadcaster has to submit an entry. It is not like some TV show gets nominated out of the blue. So SVT filed Eurovision 2016 for submission. That’s all.

BBC is basically the only broadcaster which submits entries, but this year SVT took the chance is well.

In my opinion ESC 2016 was nothing special compared to previous shows. It was just way more scripted and slighty more “pop idol”-esque.
