After winning the Eurovision 2011 jury vote in a landslide and reaching a very surprising second place, Raphael Gualazzi has kept the momentum going and the music flowing.

The 34-year-old Italian singer and pianist will release his new album “Love Life Peace” on September 23. He’s already teased the release by dropping the first single “L’estate di John Wayne”, a fresh and radio-friendly pop song that refers to electro while serving vintage Italian disco realness.

The single comes with a highly stylised video, directed by Jacopo Rondinelli. He shot with Lomo anamorphic lenses from the 70’s in order to make the vintage look even more authentic.

Old-fashioned yet oozing modern cheek, the clip takes inspiration from the Oscar-winner Italian film director and screenwriter Federico Fellini and his famous movie “Amarcord”.

The lyrics mention Fellini alongside other celebrities such as Andy Warhol, John Travolta and obviously John Wayne.

“L’estate di John Wayne” is already among the most played songs on radio stations throughout Italy, a good starting point for Raphael’s new tour that will stop in seventeen Italian cities in November and December 2016.

It’s the latest achievement for the Eurovision star who brought Italy back to the contest in 2011 after a prolonged absence. He won the Newcomers category at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2011 with “Madness of love” — and came back to the event twice, placing fifth with “Sai (ci basta un sogno)” in 2013 and second with “Liberi o no”, a collaboration with the The Bloody Beetroots, in 2014.

RAPHAEL GUALAZZI – L’ESTATE DI JOHN WAYNE LYRICS

Torneranno i cinema all’aperto e i riti dell’estate

Torneranno i cinema all’aperto e i dischi dell’estate

doesn’t sound as jazzy as expected. Yet, a very nice happy typical Italian pop song
