Of the 28 acts that competed at Melodifestivalen 2016, thirteen made their debut turn on Sweden’s biggest stage. Six of these debutants — Frans, Wiktoria, Lisa Ajax, Robin Bengtsson, SaRaha and Boris Rene — made it all the way to the final. And Frans managed to win it all, going on to Eurovision where he placed a very respectable fifth.

As Christer Björkman pours over this year’s song submissions and begins the task of pairing artists with songs, the time is ripe to ask all you Melodifestivalen fans which debuting acts from 2016 you want to see back in Melodifestivalen 2017.

Visually, Wiktoria (“Save Me”) made an impression with her digital projection dress, while Swedish Idol winner Lisa Ajax (“My Heart Wants Me Dead”) got lost in wads of toilet paper. Robin Bengtsson brought one of the most cringe-worthy song titles of the year — “Constellation Prize” — but at least everyone could pronounce it, unlike SaRaha‘s “Kizunguzungu”.

If “5” is your lucky number, you might be keen on Mimi Werner (“Ain’t No Good”), Krista Siegfrids (“Faller”), Smilo (“Weight of the World”) or Eclipse (“Runaways”), as each of them finished fifth in their heats, just missing out on Andra Chansen. In the second chance round debutant Boris Rene slayed his way to the final, knocking out Albin Johnsen & Mattias (“Rik”) in the process.

Victor och Natten (100%) and Helena Gutarra and her singing partner Swingfly (“You Carved Your Name”) both came sixth in their heats.

And of course Frans (“If I Were Sorry”) won it all, despite narrowly losing the jury vote to Oscar Zia.

Who do you want to see back this year? You can vote for as many acts as you’d like, but you can only vote ONE time. Be sure to click the name of each act you hope to see back in 2017.

All these acts were from this year, not last year.

Since the question was which acts from last year I want to return, I would definitely say Jon Henrik Fjaellgrenn and Mariette.

@JonathanUK – I also agree.
Surprised how much I liked Lisa Ajax’s song after the fact. I would like Victor och Natten and Frans to return, too.

Wiktoria, Lisa, Robin
I can believe that Saraha with terible song go to final and Lisa with good song stay in second chance.

@JonathanUK

I agree, “Save Me” is mediocre at best.

Lisa Ajax, Boris Rene and Robin Bengtsson!!!!! It may be an unpopular opinion, but I cannot stand Wiktoria’s ‘Save Me’. It’s such a mediocre composition and her vocals weren’t fantastic in my opinion. I’d be happy if she stayed away from Melfest in 2017!

@Hey, it’s me… Look, I know it might sound strange but suddenly I’m not the same I used to be. It’s like I’ve stepped out of space and time and come alive. Guess this is what it’s all about…

What a long username! 😮 😀

Honestly 2016’s finalists were all so bland and generic that I’d like them to stay away from Mediocrityfestivalen. I want TALENTED and RISKY artists like Caroline af Ugglas and Veronica Maggio.

Wiktoria, Lisa, Robin and Boris!
As long as SaRaha stays away from Melfest 2017, I’ll be fine.

The reason Ellen and ISA flopped was because their second effort wasn’t as good as the first one.
You could mention Eric Saade, Loreen and Måns himself who did better their second or third time around cause they had a better effort than first time. They acknowledged what worked last time and improved it to perfection.
Ellen and ISA didn’t do anything to improve their chances second time around but relied on celebrity factor alone.

From this year I can only see Wiktoria, Lisa Ajax and maybe Robin Bengtsson return.

Also, not to mention the possible intervention and manipulation that’s occurring behind the scenes between Christer Bjorkman and those in charge of the show. This is only a hypothesis but things are getting fishy when Bjorkman is always involved there.

Almost all of them still have potentials. However, I am doubtful and wary about the qualification of these artists (esp the successful ones this year) who will try again the second time a year after or even later. I thought about it because it’s a pattern that keeps on occurring every Melfest. Examples are Ellen Benediktson and ISA. Otherwise, those who never qualified at all like Mimi, Eclipse and Krista might also end up like Molly PH and Dolly Style.
