We all know how competitive Måns Zelmerlöw is, so it comes as no surprise to discover that the casual football team he started with his live band Zappanone has turned into a rather serious team. And now they’re about to go head to head against a team of Swedish television personalities, in a charity football match this Friday.

Måns — who named his dog after legendary footballer Lionel Messi — formed FC Zappaninhos with his live band Zappanone as a way of keeping fit and bonding during their extensive Swedish summer tour.

As the group travelled to different towns in Sweden this summer, they’d play friendly games with local teams and soon discovered they were actually getting quite good. Press attention ahead of matches in Varberg and Karlshamn attracted crowds of over 1000.

With momentum building — and with their own fancy new kit — FC Zappaninhos decided to do something big to celebrate the final game of the season, er, tour.

This Friday FC Zappaninhos will play against TV-Laget, a team made up of Swedish television personalities, including well known sports journalist Patrick Ekwall. FC Zappaninhos will be aided by former Swedish pro footballers Magnus Hedman, Thomas Ravelli and Anders Svensson. The game will determine once and for all that important and often asked question: which is the best Swedish celebrity football team?

The game is being held in aid of Måns’ charity, the Zelmerlöw & Björkman Foundation. The match will also act as a collection point for donated football shoes and sneakers, which will benefit the children at the Foundation’s sponsored schools in Kenya and Ethiopia.

If you’re in Stockholm, head along to the Kaknäs IP football field in Stockholm tomorrow, Friday 26 August, from 14:30 to 16:30. Admission is free, and there’ll be plenty of opportunities to support the Zelmerlöw & Björkman Foundation.
