Margaret has been riding the “Cool Me Down” wave all over Europe in recent months. But her performances at Sommarkryset and the RIX FM Festival in Sweden didn’t stop her from hitting the studio.

At the Polish ESKA Music Awards on Friday Margaret showed off her new single “Elephant”, which she performed along with “Cool Me Down”.

Let’s be clear from the start: Any song that immediately rhymes “douchebag” with “hashtag”, and then “elephant” with “irrelevant”, is a winner.

As a follow-up single to “Cool Me Down”, “Elephant” doesn’t sound like an easy copy. It’s actually much more in tune with some of Margaret’s other work, including “Heartbeat”. Whereas “Cool Me Down” caught you on first listen, “Elephant” is more of a grower that requires repeat listens to fully appreciate its catchy chorus and thrusting beat.

But as far as we’re concerned it’s another hit. There’s real earworm quality once again and we’re pretty sure some of y’all will be doing the elephant trunk dance she busts out in the live performance. We could maybe do without the slightly creepy elephant masks though…

ESKA Awards

The other reason Margaret was at the show was to see if she’d be picking up any ESKA Awards.

She walked away with the ESKAGO Award for “Best Artist Network”. Margaret actually got a measure of revenge in that category, as she beat out fellow nominee Michal Szpak, who pipped her at Krajowe Eliminacje to earn a spot at Eurovision.

Unfortunately, she lost in other categories, including “Best Hit” for “Cool Me Down” and “Best Female Artist”, which went to Wiwivision favourite Sylwia Grzeszczak. Sylwia also performed her Wiwivision entry “Tamta dziewczyna” at the show.

“Elephant” is definitely a grower. I heard this is not a final version of the song and it will get re-vamped for official release. This will be a hit I am sure

Nice to see how confident she’s gotten on stage! I still think it was a huge mistake by Poland not to send her to ESC.

Guys she’s already stated she won’t do Eurovision anymore. So she’ll never do itat this point.

Really like the new song. Not a big fan of her voice per se, but I like her energy, and its a catchy beat.

Question: Why release it now when the ESC window literally opens up in four days? Unless she’s got another, better song in the tubes, this seems like a missed opportunity.
