Demi Lovato’s cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young” is currently going viral, owing to its emotional delivery and some seriously fierce vocals. But she’s not the only singer who has the guts and the gall to cover the British diva, who has set charts alight globally with her three albums 1921 and 25. Eurovision stars from Hadise to Bojana Stamenov to Barei have put their vocals to the test, often with stunning results. Below we look at 17 of our favourite Adele covers from Eurovision stars.

Poli Genova (Bulgaria 2011/2016)

Competing on the Bulgarian version of Your Face Sounds Familiar earlier this year, Poli didn’t just cover Adele’s song — she also re-created her look. She slipped into one of Adele’s signature black gowns and added a bit of padding around the hips. Bootyliscious and sounds delicious.

Chiara (Malta 1998/2005/2009)

At this point we’re all used to saying hello to three-time Eurovision participant Chiara. But, performing on Maltese variety show The Entertainersshe said “Hello” to all of us. As ever the princess of power ballads killed it.

Ryan Dolan (Ireland 2013)

Ahead of Christmas 2015 Ireland’s Ryan Dolan gifted us with a cover of “Hello”. Shot in black and white, his music video shows him looking very emotional as he sings in front of the Christmas tree. Let’s hope his lover stuffed his stocking for this one.

Iveta Mukuchyan (Armenia 2016)

Iveta’s R&B-soul version of “Rolling in the Deep” shows Iveta’s originality, inventiveness and ability to make a soulful song even more soulful. Confidant and comfortable in front of the camera, she demonstrates the attributes that led her to win our search for Eurovision’s Next Top Model 2016.

Bojana Stamenov (Serbia 2015)

Beauty never lies — and neither does Bojana Stamenov’s voice! She covered “Rolling in the Deep” with the Dejan Petrovic big band and blew it out the park.

You can also listen to Bojana covering “Set Fire to the Rain”.

Dilara Kazimova (Azerbaijan 2014)

En route to Eurovision 2014, Azerbaijan’s Dilara covered Adele’s “Hometown Glory” at Boyuk Sehne, the Azeri national selection. Watch as her friends from home bloody her dress.

You can also listen to her singing “Someone Like You”.

Freaky Fortune (Greece 2014)

Three years before they bounced on a trampoline at Eurovision 2014, Freaky Fortune took inspiration from Glee by mashing up “Rumour Has It” and “Someone Like You”.

Jamie-Lee Kriewitz (Germany 2016)

She’s known for her love of Seoul and Tokyo, but there’s much more to Jamie-Lee than that Asian realness. In January she joined the Joyful Noise Choir on the sidewalk of Stadtteilfest Hannover-Kleefeld for this rendition of “Rolling in the Deep”.

Celine Dion (Switzerland 1988)

The Canadian siren rang in the New Year by tackling Adele’s “Hello”. She doesn’t seem totally comfortable in the lower register, but still brings it home Titanic style.

Lena (Germany 2010/2011)

She oozed sex appeal at Eurovision 2011, slipping into a catsuit as she sang “Taken By A Stranger”. And a month earlier she was already in fine form as she covered Adele’s “My Same”. Get it, girl.

Ivi Adamou (Cyprus 2012)

It takes a brave woman to cover Adele’s “Someone Like You”. But “La La Love” singer Ivi Adamou did just that at the Amita Motion Live Web Concert just one month before heading to Baku for Eurovision. Although she frequently says “fine” rather than “find”, she does capture the emotion of the song.

Barei (Spain 2016)

Strip it back and let’s go acoustic! So said Barei when she decided to cover Adele’s “Someone Like You” using just her voice and her guitar. And when it comes to the result, we “Say Yay!”.

Bianca Nicholas (Electro Velvet – United Kindom 2015)

A year before she met Alex, Bianca joined Oliver Poole for a soulful cover of Adele’s “Skyfall”. And even though she skips some of Adele’s really high notes near the end of the song, the overall result is not bad.

 Loïc Nottet (Belgium 2015)

Is that the sound of thunder? No, its Loïc Nottet and his breathtaking cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You” at Ducasse de Seloignes 2014.

Hadise (Turkey 2009)

Hadise has proven that she can slay upbeat songs like “Düm Tek Tek”. It appears that she’s good with songs like “Rolling in the Deep” too…

Nina (Serbia 2011)

The Serbian starlet recently moved to Australia to start a new life. Some time before that she covered Adele’s “Hello”, proving she hasn’t lost her Eurovision 2011 fire or voice.

Gabriela Guncíková (Czech Republic 2016)

Two years ago, at a “Car Of The Year 2014” event, Gabriela sang an acoustic version of Adele’s 007 song “Skyfall”. Her voice definitely has the power to make the sky fall…and maybe even break in two.

So what do you think? Who did it best? And did anyone do it better than Adele? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below…
