On Tuesday DR, the Public Broadcaster of Denmark, announced that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 will take place in Herning.

And on Friday it revealed that it had received 1,115 song submissions — a new record.

In fact, that’s 133 more than the previous record of 982 entries last year. It appears that following two years of elimination in the semi-finals, Denmark’s artists and songwriters are hungry for a place in the final…

Happy and delighted about the increase in entries, DR’s Head of Entertainment Jan Lagermand Lundme said:

I am really glad about the many submissions and also a little bit relieved that so many want to be in DMGP. This means that there is support around the Grand Prix out in the country and a feeling that now we stand together to get Denmark in the Eurovision final next year.

Mr. Lundme also revealed that he’s heard some of the songs and has found some winners among them.

I’ve heard a small portion of the songs. There are many songs, good songs and many songs that are not cut by the classic Grand Prix template, but have a modern and contemporary sound.

DMGP 2017 will take place in Jyske Bank Boxen Arena on February 25. Tickets for the show will go on sale on September 30 at 12:00 CET. You can learn more here.

Let’s note that the last time Herning hosted, Emmelie de Forrest won Eurovision on behalf of Denmark.

So what do you think? Can a winner be among these 1,115 entries?

what are the odds that one of those 1.115 is going to be a bland boy band with a overly sweet song

They had for me 4 better song than Soluna song
My favorite was Karen, than Ditte Marie, than Aya then Jesper. All 4 would bring better result for Denmark that year.
From superfinalist from 3 I will choose Jesper

DR, just don’t pick the 10 worst among the thousands. Good luck!

I don’t think there’s ever been a problem with quality in DMGP in recent years. Each year they’ve had songs which could go far in ESC, the viewers just end up picking one of the worst songs of the bunch.

I really hope they make a right decision this year, I don’t really follow DMGP , but in 2015 Anne with “Suitcase” was much more Eurovision friendly and for me a better song. And in 2016 “Heart Shaped Hole” was fantastic and though I didn’t really like “Never Alone” , both would’ve done much better I think.

Not just a boyband, but another Ronan Keating tribute act. I really want to ‘believe again’, but you can’t fool me three times.

This year’s DMGP featured 10 equally bad songs, I hope they choose better for next year.

They reached the final and there were many people who liked the song. That’s how it’s supposed to be imo. I was so surprised when a girl in my class had should’ve known better in her playlist xD

The problem is DR was forcing Anja Nissen with an average song (just listen to “Triumph”, it’s miles better than “Never Alone”), while they had Simone and “Heart Shape Hole”, which could have bring them a TOP10 placement in Stockholm, and destroyed the performance with that cheesy heart and forcing her to smile too much. But back to the topic. I really, REALLY hope they won’t have another boyband in DMGP2017 because we all know who will won.

Didn’t he say that last year aswell that there were some “potential winners” among them? They have quite some decent songs that could easily land in the finals, but the last 3 years they have chosen for cheesy filler material… I want the old denmark back xD
