At Eurovision 2016 she sang about the importance of finding a shelter where one can feel safe and protected.

And on August 19 Serbia’s Sanja Vucic took that message to another level as she visited Refugee Aid Miksalište, a Belgrade shelter than helps support more than 300 migrants that visit it every single day.

She helped serve falafel and other Middle Eastern food to refugee children and their families, all the while bringing smiles to the faces of the kids with her outré blue, purple and green dreadlocks, which she debuted on Instagram just days before her visit.

The visit was part of events to mark World Humanitarian Day in conjunction with Vlade Divac’s foundation, set up by the former NBA player and his wife Ana.

“Had an amazing time with my refugee friends at #miksalistebeograd,” Sanja wrote on Instagram. “And I wanna thank #divacfondacija and #usaid for all the work and help they have done for these people so far!! So happy to be a part of this!”

Photos from the event show Sanja putting her outgoing personality on full display as she charms the migrants, and most especially the youngsters, who wanted to play with her and clearly admired her colourful hairstyle.

The looks on their faces prove that sometimes a kind word is just as important as food and clothing. Sanja gets it.

Since Eurovision Sanja has been keeping very busy indeed.

Just two days after the grand final she and her band ZAA released the music video for “Unconditional Love”, a track that sounds like the love child of Bob Marley and Manu Chao.

Then in July she and ZAA rocked out at Demofest in Bosnia & Herzegovina, drawing huge applause from a crowd used to seeing the best talent on show.

During a press conference she reaffirmed her commitment to the band.

“Joining this band was a dream come true for me, my rock-and-roll dream that I’m still living. Even after that whole Eurovision madness I came back to my original wish, so I’m still here, sitting with you.”
