Earlier this month I packed my bags and headed to Georgia — Atlanta, honey, not Tbilisi — to visit my family. The A-T-L has produced its share of rap, R&B and country music stars and folks are mad about music. But Poli Genova and Sergey Lazarev aren’t exactly households names…yet. So, in between trips to the shopping mall and Chik-fil-A — my fave fast food chicken joint — I decided to introduce my 42-year-old sister to some of our beloved Eurovision stars. I also showed her the Top 4 of Eurovision 2016 and asked her to rank them for herself.

You can watch the video below. Let’s just say sista struggles with gender and geography, and seems to think she could “go lesbian” with Conchita Wurst. But anatomy lessons aside, she shares some similar tastes with a lot of Eurofans I know. An ocean may divide us, but we can all #ComeTogether over the Eurovision glitterati!

Which acts do you use to introduce folks to Eurovision? What performances should we ask her to review next?

To be honest – I fint this debate about gay rights and what is “homophobic” (notice the ” ) so self centered and Unecessary. What is the point? People have different opinions on the matter – Totally ok, as it should be. Some fans take such things far to seriously! I dont care who is gay, and if people like gays or not I am quite feed up with this gay – esc link som people make up to be Honest. IT is not a gay festival and many fans are straight Personally I can’t stand austria 2014. And if… Read more »

My reply to the previous comment has been deleted, I’m not sure why. Suffice to say that Pollaski has deeply mistunderstood me, and projected arguments onto me that I have never made. This is not about free speech. Etc. Etc. Etc.

@Jonas Oh, dear. Looks like I’ve hit a nerve. People who hate the concept of freedom of speech ALWAYS crack in the kiln, when the pressure is turned on, and the heat is turned up. Let me make one thing perfectly clear to you, son. EVERYTHING is up for debate. From rights to beliefs to the sum of two and two to the very color of the sky itself. To declare things “too important” for the concept of debate is censorship, and censorship is how we as a free society become EXTINCT. Think I’m kidding? Look at the places in… Read more »

You really have me summed up, Pollaksi. What an intuitive and insightful person you are. All this from a handful of posts! In this particular instance, I don’t happen to believe that the basic dignity of equal rights for gay people is up for “debate” – there is no valid “opposing argument”. So far in my time on this site I have seen you defend blackface, rush to defense of this far-right Christian fundamentalist, and declare yourself to be the most intelligent poster here. You really are a catch. Some lucky guy or gal will be really lucky to bag… Read more »

@mawnck Sadly, I see a lot of people like Jonas in the world. People who immediately lump any opposing side into cesspool of villiany, regardless of anyone’s actual motivations for believing why they do. Additionally (and perhaps more concerning) people like him aren’t content with just simple victory. Its not good enough to simply have the law changed- anyone who dared opposed them needs to be eradicated, because they have to be punished for believing the way they do.. Most of us have realized that if we only supported artists and companies, and had friends only with those we explicitly… Read more »

As long as that abhorrent bigot is CEO, I won’t be putting any of my money into his pocket. It’s really that simple. Although I lived in the US for a while, I’m rarely within a 1000-mile radius of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant any more, so it’s hardly worth debating. I see and acknowledge your point, though.

Well that was popular opinion. I might agree with her on Poli result but it was almost impossible to overcome concurents. Thank you for bringing your sister. You both look amazing.

P.S. Did she actually gave an answer on Conchita-or-Lazarev measuring later? 🙂

@Jonas On what basis are you not buying into it? Their charitable donations are public knowledge, we know their stores cheerfully serve AND HIRE LGBT people, and all traces of the religious affiliated groups that used to be all over the stores are totally gone. The evidence is against you, dude. It’s reality vs. your headcanon. I mean, you can eat wherever you want, but it seems to me you’re trying very hard to hold on to a victimhood that doesn’t exist anymore. That’s quite a waste of effort, when there are plenty of actual bigots that need to be… Read more »

Mawnck, forgive me for not buying into their apparent change-of-heart. “Gays are still evil, but I’ll shut up about them (for now) in case it hurts my business interests!” is not exactly convincing.

I know that William’s life is none of our business but I think its fair for us to be curious. When I search “William Lee Adams” on Google I see “william lee adams past life”, “william lee adams age” and “william lee adams married” as suggestions. I’m not the only one, lol. I think it’s because wiwibloggs has been integrated into our life’s with Eurovision. we just love William and all of you. <3

Came for the video, stayed for the (inevitable) clucking about Chick-Fil-A. Show her some Eurovision country music. That ought to get an interesting reaction from an Atlanta native. Other suggestions: “Eurovision songs an American would know but might not know are Eurovision” (Volaré, Waterloo, Eres Tu), or maybe some anti-Eurovision (Midnight Gold, Aina Mun Pitaa, Three Minutes to Earth). The possibilities are endless. On the Chick-Fil-A topic, some of y’all are out of date. They’ve stopped donating to the anti-gay-marriage causes, and have disassociated themselves from Focus on the Family and other such weasels. Gay marriage already won this one… Read more »

Hi William , this was fun, your sister is nice but I am glad she was not a judge because I think she does not like ballads and likes pretty guys to much. I am not gay and I think you are cuter than your sister. he he.
Finally Dami Im was robbed and should of won if only for political correctness. “sound of silence’ charted in more countries and sold more copies than the other 3 winners.

@Polegend Godgarina “Seeing their charts, I wouldn’t expect many Americans to support non-English language songs with a RISKY production and a non-generic meaning. ” See, I think that’s a bit of an overgeneralization. First of all, Eurovision music and pop charts are NOT the same (I’ve seen how eurovision entries do on european charts too). When an American watches Eurovision, they’re not doing it expecting to get the same stuff we hear on the radio. We now there’s going to be diversity. Furthermore, I think most Americans would take a song in a language they don’t understand over trying to… Read more »

Completely agree! Although not about Russia, that was terrible.
Ukraine was political and Australia only got second place because it’s Australia. For me, the real winners of Eurovision 2016 where the countries that came 4th, 5th and 6th, which were Bulgaria, Sweden and France respectively. ESC 2016 was the worst top 3 in a very very long time for me. But of course this is my opinion. 🙂

Of course I believe in debate, however I didn’t realize I had inadvertently entered into one here simply buy outlining a few simple facts and stating for those reasons I would never darken the door of a Chick-Fil-A.

They think less of me, I think less of them.

Never once did I tell them, you, or anybody else how to feel or what to do.

@Jonas It’s clear you’ve made zero effort to understand the other side of the debate, since you’re pretty ignorant about it and just lump it into a catch-all buzzword (HOMOPHOBIA!!!!). Do some research on the arguments. And before you tack me in it- I voted for gay marriage as part of the first state in the union to approve it properly (through legislation, not judicial activism) As far as the video goes, sister’s funny, although her geographical abilities makes me cringe. And yes, she can totally be 42 and look like that. Southern Belles, man. I like the whole novelty… Read more »

Yeah, they treat all their customers the same…except when they’re actively pumping money into campaigns that wish to deny gay people the same rights as everybody else and basic human dignity. I certainly would not eat there.

However I don’t judge William for choosing to do so, and I’m sure he doesn’t need me to educate him on the homophobic south.

@Jonas LMAO. Are you freaking serious? Chick Fil-A is a RESTAURANT. An extremely popular one, especially in the south- I’ve been told any self respecting southerner swears by it. (Living in the northwest, I’ve never eaten there, but would love to try it- the only southern-style chicken restaurant we have is Popeye’s which is somewhat disappointing, sans their biscuits, which are ungodly amazing) The brand is owned by an extremely conservative Christian (he actually closes his restaurants on Sunday, something NO other QSR does). He, and several executives, have opined in personal interviews that they believe marriage should be between… Read more »

Ah, the eternal question that nobody will ever get an answer to.

Great video…Suzanne is a sensation. “What a cute little Asian girl”!
I hear “Sad Pained Tree Woman” is the name of Jamala’s next album.

Although you were joking about Chick-Fil-A, right? A shame to see your hard-earned dollars channeled into hate group organizations set up to oppose same-sex marriage. 🙁
